Message from the Principal |
Dear Families,
As the school year winds down, our students have been busy participating in a variety of events to celebrate their hard work! Today, Bryden Elementary hosted the annual FUN Day for the students. Special thanks to Ashley Lanphear, Kim Nowak, and all of our families who volunteered to help make this day extra special for students! Scroll down to see pictures from this event!
This morning, staff from the Beachwood Branch of the Cuyahoga Public Library visited Bryden Elementary to share information about their summer reading program with students. Our young readers were excited to hear about the fun games and prizes they could win by participating in this challenge. Visit the Cuyahoga Public Library website to learn more about this exciting program. I hope your child will be able to join!
Friday, June 7, is the last day of school. We will celebrate our second graders on their final day at Bryden with a special clap out! Families are welcome to join us outside on the playground loop to wish our students well as they move on to Hilltop. Our clap out is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Have a lovely weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Arianna DeGeorge
Bryden/Fairmount Principal

Save the Date: Bryden Summer Reading Party
Your child has worked so hard this year. We have seen so much growth in reading through our practice with fluency, comprehension, word work, and class discussions. According to research, students who do not read over the summer can lose as much as 22% of their reading level. That means that almost two months of reading instruction could be forgotten!
We are very excited at Bryden to help prevent that loss by encouraging your child to read over the summer. We have created a reading packet that includes a reading log for your child to keep track of his or her reading. There are also follow-up written response activities to complete after finishing a book. Trick (“snap”, “fry”) words are also included for summer practice. Raz-Kids, the online reading resource, will also be available over the summer. This is another great way to keep reading skills sharp.
We are asking that your child read for at least 20 minutes five days a week. In addition, students should complete at least five of the activities of their choice provided in this packet. If your child does this awesome work, they can bring their packet to the Storybook Party and Book Swap on Thursday, August 8, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Fairmount Early Childhood Center playground. Please bring at least one book (or more) in good condition, and you will be able to choose a different gently used book to swap! We are grateful to the Beachwood PTO for sponsoring our Storybook Party. We wish you a wonderful summer and lots of great stories!
