Bryden Be H.E.A.R.D. Weekly Winners

Message from the Principal

Arianna DeGeorge

Dear Families,

As we enter the month of March, we are excited to introduce our new Be H.E.A.R.D. expectation: Be Determined. This initiative is a key component of our district-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports program. Be H.E.A.R.D. stands for Be Honorable, Encouraging, Accountable, Respectful, Determined. Students will learn and explore what it means to be determined through exploring different book characters that exemplified this trait and making personal connections. Our goal is for students to be able to answer essential questions such as: What does it mean to be determined? What are you determined to learn, do, finish, etc? How do you show determination at school?

Bryden Elementary will be hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 21, from 3:30 to 6:45 p.m. This conference night will be by invitation only. Sign ups will be sent out to families accordingly. If you do not receive an invite, please feel free to reach out to me should you have any questions or concerns about your child's academic or social-emotional learning.

Sincerely,

Ms. Arianna DeGeorge

Bryden/Fairmount Principal

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. McKenzie’s Music Class

In music, kindergarten students have been exploring with creative movement. One activity in which students participated was "mirror movement." With mirror movement, students listened to "Aquarium" by Camille Saint-Saens and created movements to match what they heard. Students worked with partners, with one leading and the other "mirroring." We used scarves to make this more fun, and students were challenged to find new ways to move the scarf to match the sound of the music. Afterward, we discussed the music by using musical comparative words such as fast/slow, loud/quiet, high/low pitched and also, by describing the mood. After analyzing the music, we discovered that the piece was supposed to sound like sea animals swimming in an aquarium! Movement is an excellent way for children to connect with music, make it relevant, and respond to it on a deeper level.
