Message from the Principal

Arianna DeGeorge

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that this is the last day of school for the 2023-2024 school year! Today, we celebrated our second-grade students with a clap out for their last day at Bryden. Good luck to all of our second-grade students on their new journey at Hilltop! Scroll down to see pictures from this event!

I want to take this time to wish everyone a safe and relaxing summer. I hope you have an opportunity to enjoy quality time with family and friends. As I reflect on my second year in Beachwood, I am extremely grateful for the constant support I have been given and feel lucky to serve in this community. It’s been an amazing year, and I look forward to our continued partnerships together in the future! Have a lovely summer!

Sincerely,

Ms. Arianna DeGeorge

Bryden/Fairmount Principal

Classroom Spotlight: Springing into Summer with Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy

The Bryden therapists, Ms. Herold, Ms. Dean, and Ms. Bambi, are pleased with the progress their students have made this year through engagement in therapy activities. Therapy sessions focused on various school-based skills including speech sound production, following directions, writing, cutting, and balancing. This year some students had opportunities to generalize these skills by practicing them through play within a small group setting as part of an OT/Speech group. The Bryden therapists are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to continue helping their students achieve their goals when classes resume in August!

Fairmount Last Day

Students and staff had a wonderful time celebrating their last day of school together!

Bryden Summer Reading Party

Your child has worked so hard this year. We have seen so much growth in reading through our practice with fluency, comprehension, word work, and class discussions. According to research, students who do not read over the summer can lose as much as 22% of their reading level. That means that almost two months of reading instruction could be forgotten!

We are very excited at Bryden to help prevent that loss by encouraging your child to read over the summer. We have created a reading packet that includes a reading log for your child to keep track of his or her reading. There are also follow-up written response activities to complete after finishing a book. Trick (“snap”, “fry”) words are also included for summer practice. Raz-Kids, the online reading resource, will also be available over the summer. This is another great way to keep reading skills sharp.

We are asking that your child read for at least 20 minutes five days a week. In addition, students should complete at least five of the activities of their choice provided in this packet. If your child does this awesome work, they can bring their packet to the Storybook Party and Book Swap on Thursday, August 8, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Fairmount Early Childhood Center playground. Please bring at least one book (or more) in good condition, and you will be able to choose a different gently used book to swap! We are grateful to the Beachwood PTO for sponsoring our Storybook Party. We wish you a wonderful summer and lots of great stories!
