Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

It was a lovely start to the week as we came together on Tuesday for our groundbreaking ceremony, celebrating the construction of our new building with the communities of Bryden and Fairmount. Scroll down to see photos of this wonderful milestone for our school community.

Thank you to all of the families who attended our kindergarten tea on Thursday and Friday. I’d also like to thank Ashley Lanphear and the PTO for sponsoring the cookies, tea, and lemonade. Our kindergarten students had so much fun performing in front of their family and friends. In addition, a big shout out to our Fairmount and Bryden PTO for providing us with so many delicious treats for Staff Appreciation Week! We are so appreciative of everything you do for us!

SHHHH…..it’s a secret! On Monday, May 13, Bryden Elementary will launch our One School, One Book event with students. We will host an assembly Monday morning for our big unveiling! Every child will receive a copy of the same book, Zoey and Sassafras, Dragons and Marshmallows by Asia Citro. Students will read it at home and at school throughout this week. In addition, we will make crafts, go on scavenger hunts, read in our very own magical barn set up in the music room, and have the chance to dress up in different themes throughout the week. Please refer to the dress-up theme schedule in this newsletter so you can plan ahead! But remember, please keep it a secret! Students will find out about this exciting adventure on Monday!

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Bambrick’s Kindergarten Class

Kindergarteners are learning about living things! A main focus has been the life cycle of butterflies. Mrs. Bambrick’s students have been recording observations in a science journal. Class discussions include how animals adapt and change. Currently the class caterpillars have transformed into chrysalids. At the end of the unit, students will release the full grown butterflies symbolizing their completion of kindergarten!

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Warner’s First-Grade Class

Students in Mrs. Warner's first-grade classroom spent the month of April reading, interpreting and writing poetry. They have also been learning about empathy in guidance class. Our young poets combined these new skills to create special Mother's Day poems for the special women in their lives.

Kindergarten Orientation and Screening

We will host an in-person orientation opportunity on Thursday, May 16, at 4:00 p.m. in the Bryden cafeteria. This orientation is for adults only. As part of the orientation, our administrator and teacher representatives will be sharing the highlights of Kindergarten. We will also have time for questions so we can best prepare you for this milestone.

Parents have also been scheduling virtual meetings with Ms. DeGeorge and Mr. Starzyk to identify individual information about our rising Kindergarten students that will help us plan for their successful transition to Bryden. If you would like to schedule a virtual meeting, please contact Tyjuana Coles at (216) 831-3933.

Rising kindergarten students will also participate in an in-person screening on Wednesday, May 22, at Bryden. Students currently attending Fairmount will not need to participate in this screener, as Bryden staff will receive helpful planning information from the Fairmount PreK teachers. Please schedule a screening for your child on SignUp Genius.

Community Presentations on Elementary Facilities Project and Playgrounds

The Beachwood community is invited to join us on Monday, May 20, at the Beachwood Board of Education office for important presentations related to the elementary facilities project. Starting at 6:00 p.m. the architectural design team will present the playground design concepts for the new Bryden and Hilltop Schools. The community will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage with the design team. A second presentation will follow at 7:00 p.m. during the Board of Education meeting. This presentation will update attendees on the estimated budget as design development concludes for the two schools. Free childcare is available. Volunteer at Bryden FUN Day

Bryden FUN Day is Friday, May 31, and we need your help to make it a success! We are looking for family volunteers to assist with various games and activities sponsored by the PTO. If you’re interested in volunteering, please complete the Bryden FUN Day sign-up form.

Missing Something? Please Check Bryden's Lost and Found

We know there are times when your child may leave a specific item of clothing around the school, which is then placed in the lost and found. In an effort to minimize the amount of items stored in the lost and found, we have reorganized the area to help students and families better see what is left behind. Please view the lost and found slides and visit the lost and found in the Bryden main lobby if you see one of your child’s articles.
