New EPA Brownfield Grant Opportunities: 

Guidelines Released, Applications Due 11/13/2023


U.S. EPA recently released its FY2024 Brownfield grant guidelines with several grant opportunities with application deadlines for submission on November 13, 2023The U.S. EPA plans to award $235M in 200 brownfield grants ranging from $500,000 to $5M. You may find and download these guidelines here.


This year the brownfield grant opportunities include each of the following opportunities with links provided below for each specific grant type’s guidelines. Each of these grant opportunities has a current closing date for applications of Nov. 13, 2023:

These Tips for Submitting an Application through Grants.gov include the 5 steps, one of which (registering in www.sam.gov and/or obtaining a Unique Entity Identifier -UEI) could take up to a month or more, so should be addressed now if necessary! 


  1. Register with SAM (the System for Award Management) at www.sam.gov. If you are already registered with www.sam.gov, make sure your account is active.
  2. Obtain a UEI, a 12-digit alphanumeric ID, assigned in www.sam.gov for your organization.
  3. Complete an AOR (Authorized Organization Representative) profile, and create a username and password in www.grants.gov; using the correct UEI.
  4. Become an authorized AOR by requesting approval from your organization’s E-Business Point of Contact (E-Biz POC).
  5. Track the AOR status by logging into www.grants.gov.

2023 Phoenix Award Recipients

Congratulations to the 2023 Phoenix Award Winners! The awards reflect the progression of brownfield redevelopment over the past 20+ years by recognizing extraordinary practitioners and projects. What was once a niche activity has grown into a practice area of its own with public, private, and nonprofit practitioners across the country focused solely on brownfields as an essential function of planning, economic development, environmental quality, and community development.

Brownfields 2023 Poster Gallery Winners

The Poster Gallery offers a venue to visually depict innovative practices (brownfields assessment, cleanup, redevelopment), share brownfields success stories, and present research findings. Posters were displayed in the Exhibit Hall for the duration of the conference, and featured an award for the Best Overall Poster and a People’s Pick Award voted by conference attendees.
