Student Life

Weekend Policy Reminder

For your and your student’s planning purposes, this is a reminder that per our Weekend Policy all boarding students are limited to taking 6 weekends per semester.

After-Hours Communication

If you have any travel questions or need to get in touch with a dean after hours (Monday through Friday after 4 p.m, Saturday after 12 p.m. or Sunday at any time), please call or text the administrator on duty (AOD) at (978) 269-4989. You can also email AOD@brooksschool.org. Using this form of communication will help us make sure we know any changes to a student’s coming and going from campus. This is particularly helpful on the weekends. Thank you!

Gate Hours

At Brooks, we have two primary entrances: the Main Gate and the Athletics Gate. Here are the operational hours for the gates.

Main Gate

  • Monday - Saturday: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Monday - Saturday: Closed 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Sunday: Closed. Once the gate closes Saturday at 7 p.m., it does not reopen until Monday at 7 a.m.

Athletics Gate

  • Monday - Friday: Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday: Open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday: Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Weekend Bulletin and Sunday Activities

We have a fun weekend ahead of us for all of our students! Every week we will share a Weekend Bulletin, which outlines the variety of weekend activities.

Eight educators have joined Brooks School’s faculty this fall. Learn all about each — in their own words — in our latest news article, "Meet the New Teachers."

Winter Term Class List Coming Soon

Looking ahead, the list of classes available to students for Winter Term (our three-week, one-topic course of study held each January) will be shared in a Winter Term Catalog on Sept. 9 and linked to in the Sept. 12 newsletter. The first round of course selection begins, through advisors, on Sept. 17.

College Counseling

Upcoming SAT Exam at Brooks on October 9

Brooks will host the SAT exam for sixth-form students on Oct. 9. Students who choose to take the exam will be excused from their morning classes. Registration and payment for this school day exam are handled internally by Brooks, so you do not need to register with the College Board. To sign up for the exam, please complete the October 9 SAT School Day Registration by Sept. 13. If you choose to take the test, the business office will bill each family a $60 fee for the exam. If you are fee waiver eligible, you will not be billed.

Upcoming College Admission Visits at Brooks

College admission reps from all over the country will be visiting Brooks to meet with students of the class of 2025 from Sept. 12 through Oct. 31. Students can check their SCOIR accounts to view the complete list of schools that are currently scheduled to come. Colleges are still signing up each day, so they should remember to check SCOIR often so they don’t miss their favorite schools. Students must sign up in their SCOIR accounts to attend college visits. If you have any questions, please contact Assistant College Counselor and Office Coordinator Marianne Consoli.

Health and Wellness

Health and Wellness Center Opportunities

Beginning in October, we will offer the seasonal flu vaccination and Covid booster vaccination on campus. Stay tuned for more information about how your student can sign up for vaccine clinics and please make sure your Magnus Health Flu & Covid Vaccine permissions are signed if you’d like your child to be eligible for either vaccination. If you have questions, please contact Nurse Manager Stephanie Savarese.

Athletics

The cross-country team hiked together at Weir Hill yesterday during preseason practice.

Independent School League (ISL) Memo

With the fall athletics season upon us, please read this important memo for all community members from the ISL heads of school about committing to the ISL standards of good sportsmanship at our games and sporting events.

Arts

Sign Up for Private Music Lessons

Please complete the 2024–2025 Private Music Lessons Form if your student is interested in taking weekly instrumental and/or voice lessons available through Brooks. Instruction is available on more than a dozen instruments. Our team of instructors is happy to work with students of any level of experience. Lessons typically meet during the academic day in a free block in the student’s schedule. Contact Director of Music Michael Bruschi with questions.

Mailroom Update

The campus mailroom is currently under construction. While under construction, the pickup process for packages and letter mail has been modified. We will provide weekly updates to pickup instructions as needed until the construction is complete.

  • Package/letter mail pickup can be done in-person at the mailroom door (next to the school store entrance) Sept. 3 through Sept. 10 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Textbook orders are available for pickup in the student center.
  • Brooks School’s new locker delivery system is set to be installed on Sept. 10. More details to come via email once they are up and running!

Student Debit Account Cash Withdrawals

While cash is not needed to make purchases on campus, cash withdrawals from student debit accounts are permitted. Cash withdrawals from student debit accounts can be done at the business office (the building between the Center for the Arts and Chapel, on the second floor) Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Students must have their Student ID to make a withdrawal.
