Upcoming Launch of the Next Edition

of the Building Code

Ontario is planning to release the 2024 edition of the Building Code soon to reduce regulatory burdens for the construction industry and make it easier to build housing.

The 2024 Building Code will come into effect on January 1, 2025. There will be an additional transition period allowing permit applicants to continue to use the 2012 Building Code for applications submitted before March 31, 2025, if applicants can demonstrate that their working plans were substantially completed under the 2012 Building Code prior to December 31, 2024. More details about the transition period and training opportunities will be shared by the province in the coming weeks.

The new Building Code will be released in digital and hardcopy versions to support the industry's transition and ensure applicants have sufficient time to become familiar with the new edition of the Building Code before it comes into effect on January 1, 2025. The province will continue working with partners to maintain high standards in Ontario's Building Code and make it easier for the sector to build new homes, while protecting public health and safety.

Celebrate Accessibility in Brock

Brock residents, organizations and businesses strive to create an environment that is welcoming and engaging. We would like to recognize the efforts of everyone that has made Brock an inclusive place to live.

Has a business you frequent eliminated any barriers or enhanced access for people with disabilities?

Has a community organization made accommodations that would have otherwise prevented individuals from being able to join?

Has an individual created a positive and engaging experience?

Please help us by nominating a Brock resident, business or organization that has embraced the goal to make our Township accessible to everyone. Please give a detailed example of how this Brock resident, organization and business made a difference. The deadline for applications is May 31, 2024.

No Mow May

No Mow May is back! Residents are welcome to pick up a sign at the Municipal Office in Cannington and show their commitment to not mowing their lawn until June 1st.

Come pick up your sign today!!

Other Ways to Participate/What you can do after May?

Whether you can participate in No Mow May or not, you can help pollinators throughout the spring and summer by:

  1. Planting a pollinator garden. Choose a variety of native flowering plants, such as Asters, Bee Balm, Milkweed and Coneflowers, with varying bloom times that last from spring until fall in order to provide food sources all season long.
  2. Choose a section of your lawn that can remain uncut all summer long.
  3. Decrease mowing frequency throughout the mowing season. Let your lawn grow a little longer than normal, ideally mowing only once or twice per month.
  4. Mow at the highest setting. This allows low lying flowers to continue to grow and decreases re-flower time for those that are mown.
