Scripture: Joshua 1:1-9
We’ve all stood at threshold moments in our lives, moments of transition that are imbued with presence, promise, and possibility. Moses knew this as he stood at the threshold of the promised land in his final days. Soon, his people who had endured much, would cross over into the hope and promise that awaits.
What thresholds are you facing in your own life? How is God meeting you in this space? How might we embrace this threshold moment at Broadway as we anticipate Love’s leading?

TLC for the CLC: Technical Love & Care for Our Christian Life Center
Our church needs your help to complete an upgrade to the Christian Life Center (CLC) and the adjacent parking lot. The projected cost is $264,348, of which $118,090.45 has already been secured, allowing preliminary purchases to avoid cost increases. These funds have been sourced from contingency funds, permanent fund distributions from various departments, and generous donations. However, we still need $146,257.55 to complete the project this summer. We are inviting you with an opportunity to help us achieve this goal and ensure our facilities remain functional and welcoming. Please take a look at our official kick off letter that will be arriving in your mailboxes soon.
The need for an upgrade arises because the CLC's heating and air conditioning system, originally installed in 2006, has reached the end of its expected lifespan. The current system requires the entire HVAC to run if just one classroom needs conditioning, leading to inefficiencies. The new design proposes a large unit for the gym and three smaller units for classrooms, offering better control and improved efficiency. This upgrade aligns with our commitment as a Green Chalice Congregation and allows us to claim a $1,800 rebate from the City for enhanced efficiency. Additionally, improvements to the north parking lot, plagued by potholes and hazards, will ensure safety and accessibility with new asphalt and a subsurface drainage system.
Throughout responses to surveys this past year, one recurring theme was the desire to be attractive to young families. The CLC is where many of the children and youth activities take place, and while most of us will benefit from this upgrade during meetings, classes, or dinners, our children and young families will be particularly drawn to events here. The CLC's original design emphasized flexibility and accessibility, serving as an example for other churches. By making the HVAC more functional and efficient, Broadway can use this space to serve our children and community in additional ways, enhancing our mission and outreach.
We recognize that you may have already pledged to Broadway’s 2024-2025 operating budget, and we are grateful for your support! As we continue to build on the theme "New Day Broadway" and welcome our new pastors, we invite you to help us maintain and improve our facilities. Please consider making a pledge to ensure a comfortable and inviting environment in the CLC, with pledges fulfilled by November 1, 2024, to help us raise the remaining $146,257.55. Your generosity will support our mission to create a welcoming space for all. Thank you for your consideration.

Re-imagining Two Worship Services
The Qualitative Review Team (QRT), Lynelle Phillips, Deb Carr, John Poehlman, Maggie Mead and Darren Day reviewed all notes taken at the two World Café’s on April 9 and 10, 2024. Table leaders for the Café’s included Maggie Meade, Rita Allen, Kristi Larsen, Audra Sergel, Deb Carr, Lynelle Phillips, John DeLaporte, and Sarah Merz.
This Power Point report, was shared with the entire worship team, and with the BCC Board on May 28, 2024. This report outlines the process and findings of the QRT and the input gathered regarding our Sunday morning schedule by John DeLaporte and Sarah Merz. Also included for your review are the Topical Organization of the Café’ comments and the Primary Themes discerned by the QRT.
If you have any questions regarding any of this information please contact Deb Carr (carrd@umsystem.edu). The 2024 Worship Committee is tremendously grateful for the input from our membership and look forward to the upcoming changes. The information garnered will
be tremendously helpful to our staff in planning for two re-imagined services that express the desire and longing of our congregants, as well as changes to our Sunday morning schedule that will further support our mission. With thanks and gratitude.
Deb Carr, 2023-2024 Worship Chair

Seasoned Spirits on the Road to St. Louis
Want to visit or re-visit Missouri's most iconic landmark, the tallest monument in the United States, AND the world's tallest arch? If so, join us for a trip to the Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis on Monday, August 5.
For this trip, we have chartered a 55-passenger luxury bus so that we can all travel together - and so that no one has to drive or park in downtown St. Louis. Join us as we explore the Arch (even taking the Tram to the top if you desire), explore the cathedral next door, and enjoy food, fellowship, and fun. Register for this trip here, before June 30th.
This event is wheelchair accessible.

Bells, Bells, and MORE Bells!!
Do you enjoy hearing the sound of handbells in our worship services? Would you like to hear MORE, with different sounds, and different types of music? How about a repeat of Sing a Song of Pentecost, shared in worship on May 26, but with 150+ ringers?? Also, two “guest artist” community handbell choirs?!? This week, June 20 – 22, there is an Area (5-state) Handbell Conference right here in Columbia at the Holiday Inn Expo Center!
Concerts associated with the Conference are open to the public, with tickets available at the door. River City Ringers, Omaha, NE will be in concert Friday, June 20 at 8:00 p.m. Rezound! from Kansas City will present a lunchtime concert on Saturday, starting time shortly after 11:45 a.m. Both those concerts take place in the Expo Center itself. The final Festival Concert is Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Windsor Ballroom, and is FREE!!
Three Broadway ringers, plus six from “down the road” at Community UMC have all be working HARD, and will be taking part in this event. Come to the Expo Center Saturday evening to support them, (and Friday for the “featured groups”) enjoy some wonderful music, and hear things you’ve never heard before, all presented via handbells!
