Dear SCS Alum,
It has been a challenge and a blessing to prepare for this year's Back To School Season. Despite the changes and uncertainty that marked our summer preparations, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to maintaining the
St. Catharine of Siena tradition of faith-based academic excellence.

PREPARING FOR A NEW SCHOOL YEAR IN AN AGE OF UNCERTAINTY
|
Despite closing our building in mid-March, St. Catharine of Siena School was never truly "closed." We finished out the 2019-2020 school year by implementing a virtual learning plan, and as the school year ended, we immediately launched into plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Principal Marcella Kraycik, convened a Pandemic Health & Safety Task Force, and set out to draft contingency plans for three different learning models: 100% live, hybrid learning, & 100% virtual. In early August, we planned to implement the 100% live model, but with changing recommendations and guidelines from the state and Diocese coming in mid-August, we had to pivot to a hybrid learning model with parent-selected virtual options. Preparation has been key to a smooth transition during this unpredictable back to school season!

How are we keeping our faculty, staff, & students safe inside our building?
We have implemented many enhanced health and safety procedures, including: daily health and temperature checks, lab material cleaning after every use, enhanced nightly cleaning of the entire building, a full-time cleaner present all day to disinfect common areas and high use areas, creative use of our outdoor spaces, including our brand new outdoor classroom and playground, mandatory mask use, and a temporary moratorium on outside guests and volunteers.

JOIN US!
Current restrictions prevent us from holding our annual Walk-A-Thon in school, but that won't stop us from holding the 2020 WALK-A-THON! This year's winning tee-shirt design, submitted by 7th grader, Lillie Keperling, encompasses the spirit of the event. With virtual fundraising pages, and self-paced walks happening during the weekends of September 19 and September 26, all students are raising pledges here, 100% of which go directly to our school.
You can support our students by making a donation here, or better yet, JOIN US! Set up a fundraising page of your own, and WALK to support your alma mater. A limited number of Walk-A-Thon tees are still available for alumni registrants!
A finish line celebration is planned for Saturday, October 3, after 4:30 Mass, under the Pavilion outside Church. If we meet our goal of raising $25,000, Monsignor Domin and Principal Kraycik have pledged to swap baseball jerseys, with Monsignor Domin wearing a Phillies jersey and Principal Kraycik wearing a Mets jersey! Please help us meet our goal by sharing the Walk-A-Thon link with friends, family, and fellow alum!

On August 4, 2020, we lost a beloved member of our SCS community, when Mr. Robert Wright, SCS alum and ardent supporter, passed away at Reading Hospital at the age of 83. A fierce advocate for vocations, Catholic education, hard work, and kindness, Mr. Wright practiced what he preached in every sense of the word. We will miss him greatly.
Please join us in prayers of condolence and support for Mr. Wright's wife, Catherine "Kitty" Wright and the entire, extended Wright family.
