THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE

How the Tables Have Turned

The Bible is filled with unexpected and dramatic accounts of reversal—stories in which a situation of despair, failure, or judgment is somehow miraculously transformed by God (often at the last moment) into one of hope, victory, and redemption.

We enjoy hearing those types of stories in Scripture, but we sometimes struggle to believe that God is really able and interested in reversing seemingly hopeless circumstances in our own lives. But as we wrap up our sermon series from the book of Esther this week, we’ll once again be reminded that God is always good and always wise and always at work (often behind the scenes), orchestrating events for His purposes, even when we cannot see a way out.

NEWS AND EVENTS

Thank you to all who joined MUCH Hope in serving local homeless and farm worker moms this Mother's Day! This year we celebrated with dinner, crafts, cupcakes, and flowers at a shelter where many of the single women and kids are hiding from abusive partners. One of the ladies there spoke with MUCH Hope leader Sujana Panthulu and said she wants to come to church because of the love we showed her. She wants to know this God who loves her above and beyond the love we shared with her. What a great joy that we are able to share God's love in these small ways. Thank you for helping this event to have a big impact on these women and their kids.

Gather on the Worship Center patio on Sun., June 9, at 9:15am before the start of Life Groups, to surround our Bridges high school students and pray over them as they load up buses and head to summer camp at Hume Lake.

Join us for lunch after church on Sun., June 9, in the Bridges Family Center, as our Missions Committee hosts a time of fellowship and sharing with one of our BCC-supported mission partners, Dave Deal. Dave serves with Athletes in Action and will be sharing details at the luncheon about an exciting outreach project he will be part of at the Summer Olympics. All men are invited to our annual ManDay on Sat., Aug. 17! We'll start at Bridges at 8:30am for breakfast and guest speaker Bobby Evans, former Vice President of Player Operations and General Manager of the Giants. Afterward, join a one-time activity such as golf, target shooting, hiking, bowling, or tennis/pickleball. Look out for more info coming soon!

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

We're excited to partner with CityTeam for our 4th year of honoring men who are

changing their lives through CityTeam's programs. We will be putting together 70 gift bags, so please consider donating any of the needed items and bringing them to church by June 7. Sports & More Camp for ages 6-11 is right around the corner, June 24-28, and we need some great volunteers to serve as assistant coaches! No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to serve the Lord and the children He brings to our campus. For more info, contact Kathy Spillar in the Bridges office: kathy@bridges.church.

Join MUCH Hope as they serve local homeless at Sunnyvale Homefirst shelter by providing monthly dinners. Guest numbers at the shelter have increased greatly to 150 people, so lots of help is needed whether it's for 30 minutes or 2 hours! Volunteer to drop off supplies at Bridges, or help cook in the Bridges kitchen on a designated Sunday. For questions, contact sujana.panthulu@gmail.com.

Bridges’ Deaconess and Deacon Boards are recruiting volunteers to join in the important mission of hearing the word and doing what it says (James 1:22) along with the combined need for faith and action (James 2:16). Our Deaconesses continually support the Bridges family in ways both seen and behind the scenes, and we hope to grow the Deacon Board to similarly serve and also partner with the Deaconesses on joint projects. Have you been looking for ways to serve with other dedicated people? Whether you’d like to send an encouraging note, visit someone in the hospital, give a ride, or something else that excites you, only sign up when you are available and in areas where you want to contribute. Join us this summer for a short-term mission trip to São Paulo, Brazil, July 18-28! We will be working closely with our long-time mission partners Paulo & Ireni Mota and the organization and staff they oversee (Restoration Ministries) to lead fun Bible programs and activities for children and youth, and to participate in home visitations and prayer outreaches to families in the surrounding favela neighborhoods.
