OHIO AND KENTUCKY SECURE FEDERAL ENVIRONMENTAL APPROVAL TO MOVE BRENT SPENCE BRIDGE CORRIDOR PROJECT FORWARD
Federal Highway Administration concludes environmental review
The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project reached a major milestone today when Ohio and Kentucky received environmental approval from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) clearing the way for the $3.6 billion project to move ahead.

The “Finding of No Significant Impact,” or FONSI, is based on a supplemental environmental assessment conducted by the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The assessment evaluated the social, economic and environmental effects of the project as well as mitigation measures, which offset unavoidable impacts, and enhancement measures, which are included to provide additional community benefits. The decision is also based on FHWA’s consideration of public and agency comments received during the public comment period.

FHWA’s determination concludes the federal environmental review, allowing the project to advance to design, remaining property acquisition and construction.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Stretching from the Western Hills Viaduct in Ohio to Dixie Highway in Kentucky, the $3.6 billion project will be built without tolls and transform an eight-mile portion of the I-71/75 interstate corridor, including a companion bridge immediately to the west of the existing bridge.
