LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee approved legislation that would ban all drivers from texting while driving. Drivers would also be barred from watching movies or streaming video from in-car devices. This bill would block local governments from enacting texting bans stricter than state law. SBs 56 (Bean, Dist. 25, Holcomb) and 61 (Razer, Dist. 7, Kansas City) have been combined into Senate Committee Substitute 56.

The House Economic Development Committee passed out the Entertainment Industry Jobs Act this week. HB 133 (Hudson, Dist. 138, Cape Fair) has been referred to the Legislative Oversight Committee, who will hear the bill Monday.

The first bill to be sent to Governor Parson for consideration this session is the Supplemental bill, HB 14, which contains the pay increase for state workers. Senate and House Committees continued meeting this week to advance legislation. We continue to monitor legislation and will keep you updated as session progresses.
