Distributing DExC: Providing Digital Equity for All Students


Students poured into Farley Field House and onto a level playing field as they picked up a 13-inch MacBook Pro, iPad mini, and Apple Pencil as part of Bowdoin’s Digital Excellence Commitment (DExC). By providing every student with this technology bundle, Bowdoin inspires innovation and creates digital equity for every student regardless of family means, fully equipping them with the tools and opportunities to learn and lead in a digital world.

Bowdoin Officially Opens the Academic Year

Bowdoin Team Posts Strong Performance in Democracy Challenge


As the summer of 2022 comes to a close, a small team of faculty and staff in the economics, government, and IT departments will return to Bowdoin with a new title: winners of Stanford University's Strengthening Democracy Challenge.

A New Partnership between Bowdoin College and the Roux Institute at Northeastern University 


Bowdoin has entered into a partnership with The Roux Institute at Northeastern University in Portland, Maine, to provide opportunities for students to supplement their Bowdoin studies—and both institutions share the goal of transforming Maine into a research-intensive technology hub that attracts and retains talent in these fields.

Toshi Reagon Named Joseph McKeen Visiting Fellow


Singer, composer, musician, producer, and curator Toshi Reagon has been appointed Bowdoin’s next Joseph McKeen Visiting Fellow and will lead a yearlong inquiry into racial justice, climate justice, gender justice, and faith during the 2022–2023 academic year.

Oasis of Opportunity: The Bowdoin Scientific Station on Kent Island


For nine weeks in the summer at the Bowdoin Scientific Station on Kent Island, students have the opportunity to live with few distractions while focusing on scientific or artistic pursuits. This immersive experience gives students the chance to do important hands-on research, be part of the island's long legacy of data collection, work alongside others who've chosen careers in science, and explore nature's intersections with art of all kinds. Read more and watch videos about living, working, and learning on the island.

Meet Daniel Olds, New Vice President for Alumni Relations

 

Daniel Olds, Bowdoin’s new vice president for alumni relations, began his new position in mid-August, bringing with him nearly a quarter century of experience in the higher ed space. In his new role at the College, Olds oversees all aspects of alumni relations and serves as chief liaison for the Alumni Council. Read a Q&A with Dan Olds.

Fall Schedules Posted, Practices Underway for Polar Bear Athletes


Bowdoin’s fall athletic teams have returned to campus and are hard at work in preseason practices, with the first varsity games less than a week away. Complete schedules for all fall teams are available on Bowdoin’s composite calendar page and full coverage of all contests will be available throughout the fall at GoUBears.com, with webcasts of all home events courtesy of the Northeast Sports Network.

Bowdoin Signatory to US Supreme Court Amicus Brief Supporting Use of Race-Conscious Admissions Process 


Bowdoin has joined with thirty-two peer institutions in an amicus curiae brief filed with the Supreme Court of the United States in support of Harvard College and the University of North Carolina and policies that allow admissions officers at both institutions to consider race as a factor in the review of a college application. “It is through a holistic admissions process—one that includes race and ethnicity among its factors—that we are able to assemble classes of students who make this powerful education and experience possible,” said President Clayton Rose.

Funded Internship Grant Recipients Make Waves across the Country


This summer, nearly a hundred students received funded internship grants from Career Exploration and Development (CXD), which provides students with a $5,000 stipend so they can pursue unpaid internships in their areas of interest.

Flipping the First Day of School Story: BTS Graduate Taylor Jorgensen Emery '22 Is Ready for Class


After graduating from the Bowdoin Teacher Scholars program in May, Taylor Jorgensen Emery ’22 is preparing for her first job as a teacher at Saint Dominic Academy in Auburn, Maine.

Benje Douglas to Lead Office of Inclusion and Diversity


In a message to the Bowdoin community, President Clayton Rose announced that Benje Douglas has been appointed the College's permanent senior vice president for inclusion and diversity after having led the office on an interim basis.
