AN E-NEWSLETTER FOR BORGIA ALUMS
A MESSAGE FROM FR. MIKE BOEHM

Dear Alumni,

May the Grace and Peace of the Lord, Jesus Christ, be with you.

This letter is bittersweet for me to write to you, but I wanted you to learn of this news directly from me.

Archbishop Robert Carlson has given me the new appointment of Pastor of St. Francis Borgia Parish effective July 28, 2020. I am happy to report that I will remain as Chaplain for St. Francis Borgia Regional High School which will allow me to remain associated with our Borgia family here.

Archbishop Carlson and I had several discussions about my current assignment. Archbishop is very supportive of me in this position, and while I love serving as President of Borgia, we both realized that this would not be a long-term assignment due to the number of priests available to serve as pastors in the Archdiocese. This was a hard decision, but we have to be realistic about the current situation in the Archdiocese and address it as best we can.

I am pleased that Mr. Bernard Naumann has been appointed by the Archdiocese of St. Louis as interim President of Borgia, and I will do everything I can to support him in this role. Mr. Naumann has served in various roles in secondary education. Most recently, he retired from his role as Director of Mission Advancement, Columbia Catholic Project & President, Tolton Catholic High School (Diocese of Jefferson City). Previous roles include President of Duchesne High School and Principal of St. Dominic High School. He holds the following degrees: BA/BS in Political Science/Business, MA in Curriculum and Instruction, MS in Educational Leadership and Administration, and an MBA.

A thorough search for a new President will commence this fall by the Archdiocese of St. Louis in conjunction with members of the Borgia community. Borgia deserves a President who could serve for a long time and lead this school into the future.

On a personal note, I expressed my thanks to Archbishop Carlson for entrusting me with the position of President for this past year. I have been blessed by all of you in my ministry. I feel so fortunate to have gotten to know and interact with all of you who make up our fine faculty, staff, parents, students, alumni, and members of the Borgia Family. You all have made a huge impact on my life and I can say that my time at Borgia has been an incredible gift to me. I am extremely grateful that I am going to be able to stay connected to the Borgia Family as a local Pastor and as Chaplain for the school for, I hope, many years to come.

Please pray for Mr. Naumann and for me during this transition. I will be praying for you and your loved ones. I look forward to seeing you around and working with you to further strengthen our beloved St. Francis Borgia Regional High School. St. Francis Borgia, pray for us!

Sincerely in Christ,

Reverend Michael P. Boehm

OUR FINE ARTS CLASSES
WRAP-UP THE YEAR!
THE ART DEPARTMENT WRAP-UP FROM MS. KELLY MAUNTEL

"This year my Distinguished Artist Awards went to four fantastic senior artists: Caroline Clarkson, Lily Elcan, Carter Hanse, and Grace McKinnis.

Also, this year we did something special with our Pottery 2 Monster collaboration with an area grade school kindergarten class - SFBGS. We invited them to come view our display at the high school which featured the kindergarten student drawings next to the Pottery 2 student’s sculptural replica of these drawings. They LOVED it! They also got a tour of the pottery room and enjoyed a Borgia cookie in the art room."
HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE THEATER AND SPEECH DEPARTMENTS FROM MR. TIM BUCHHEIT

"Competition one-act play “The Staggering Heartbreak of Jasmine Merriwether” took second place at district competition and qualified for state (our fifth state qualification in the last six years). State championships were cancelled this year due to COVID-19.

Our Speech team took second place overall in the Christian Interscholastic Speech League."
IN CELEBRATION OF THE CLASS OF 2020
Faculty Member of the Year
Mr. Stan Westhoff
Mr. Westhoff has been described as “an iconic figure at our school” in one nomination and as someone who “puts his whole heart into teaching” by another.

Over and over, nominations mentioned that this teacher “pushes them to do better” and “work hard.” A parent mentioned that this teacher made a positive impact on his child.

Although he teaches mostly sophomores, a senior took the time to write in her nomination that “he scared me quite honestly when I had him...and it wasn’t until the year was over that I would miss his class...He taught me early on that responsibility is the key to success.”

It is clear that our Teacher of the Year has high standards for his students and works hard to help them reach those high standards. A fellow teacher states, “he is unassuming and does not look for the spotlight, however his daily efforts in the classroom have proven effective...Our students do better because he has taught them to be better writers, readers and thinkers.”

So whether it’s because of his goofy sayings or his emphasis on the various syllables or it’s because he made you a better writer or a better person, it seems like everyone has a story to tell about our Teacher of the Year. As one student said, “he continues to get the best out of students year in and year out” and I would venture to guess that is because he gives his best to his students year in and year out.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Stan Westhoff as the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year.

Staff Member of the Year
Mr. Mike Dolan
Mr. Dolan received many nominations for this well-deserved award. They include:

"Always has a positive attitude with the student athletes and is very enjoyable to have around during the sports season. Mr. Dolan is a great example of a true leader and gives great knowledge to our students and student athletes. He is always kind and encouraging to everyone whether he is subbing in class or sitting at the end of the bench during basketball season. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves because Mr. Dolan has put many years of love, time, and dedication into our Borgia students, community, or in other words, family."

"Mr. Dolan has been nothing but the best for me this whole year. Through all my injuries he kept me positive and motivated to keep getting better and that I could do anything I put my mind to, for me he is the best representation of the Borgia mindset of never give up. He treated me like family since day one and I will be forever thankful!"

"I would like to nominate Mr. Dolan to be the Support Staff Member of the Year. He goes above and beyond in all he does by helping at school and athletics. At school, he is always friendly and kind to everyone. He makes sure that everyone is doing well. At athletic events, he takes care of the athletes before and after games. He has dedicated a lot of time to our school and community."

Thank you, Mr. Dolan, for all you do for us!!
