News & Notes from Fr. Pete Jankowski

So Many Good Volunteers at the Bordertown Parishes!

I wish to thank publicly Maurelio & Ruth Gomez, who behind the scenes have been cleaning our parish facilities with a wonderful spirit. Ruth owns a cleaning business in the area and her group has been teaming up with Maria Saldaña and Artemio Ojeda in cleaning our properties without charge. Towards that effort, Maurelio & Ruth have invested themselves in cleaning both parish churches, both parish rectories and both parish halls as well. On Friday, Ruth & Maurelio spent eight hours in the St. Patrick’s Church basement cleaning the kitchen and surrounding area, which was in really bad shape. The parish scrubber has not gotten anywhere near as good a workout as it did on Friday!

I also wish to thank Ted Peterson from Van Drunen Farms (and the Pittsburgh Steelers!) for working with Jon & Matt Cousins (the city inspectors in Momence), who are helping us acquire the local permits for the gym bathroom project we are undertaking. Parishioner Joe Kraus and his sons are preparing the gym area so that Joe Cohn and his workers from Boss Plumbing in Glen Ellyn have volunteered their time and resources to complete this project with little cost to the parish. My prayer is that the monies we made from the St. Patrick Golf Outing will cover what we are doing in the St. Patrick’s Gym on behalf of the faithful who use our facilities.

I also with to thank again Joe Martin and the good folks from Richards Supply for donating the shingles for our St. Patrick’s Roof Project, as well as greatly reduced labor costs, so that we can complete the roof project at this church. That we might be able to pull of an estimated $75,000 gym project and $60,000 roof project on a dime is a wonderful testimony to all of you and our volunteers for their wonderful help in sustaining our parish facilities.

While we are thanking people, I would like to acknowledge Miguel Aguirre from Joliet, whose tree service ground down over forty stumps, cut down a few trees, did landscaping work at St. Anne’s and charged us a pittance for his service to the parish. Miguel returns to St. Pat’s next week to cut down a tree, whose heavy, fallen branches have dodged our rectory and garage but is begging to get cut down before anything bad happens. I also wish to acknowledge Business Manager Kathy Griffiths who is in the process of completing BOTH parish budgets this month. Between that responsibility and everything else she does, Kathy truly is a blessing to our parish.

Now that we are into September, John Rehmer and Kim Emerson is preparing to start the 2022-23 version of Religious Education Classes at our parishes. If we want our kids to get to heaven (and fill the pews of our church!), we need to get our kids invested in this faith. In-Church registrations will take place on September 11 you also can register your kids online or by visiting the parish office during the week.

Concerning those over the age of fourteen, Ana Rivas (Spanish) and David Surprenant (English) are coordinating our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults at both parishes. Those classes begin later this fall. Again, a link is offered online for registration or you can contact the office for more information.

Finally, St. Anne Parishioner Jackie Bruhn (Trust Officer at State Bank & Trust in Bradley) will be offering two ESTATE PLANNING SEMINARS at our respective parishes – at St. Patrick’s as part of the CCW Mass and Dinner on September 13 (5:30 p.m. Mass and a Pot Luck / Jackie’s talk to follow) and at St. Anne’s on September 14 after the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please disregard all electronic and post card mailings about Estate Planning so that you may come to these events instead.

Have a blessed week! – Fr. Pete
