My Interview with Catholic Spirit Radio

|
An affiliate of EWTN, Catholic Spirit Radio's non-profit mission is simple: to broadcast the Gospel message over the radio with the goal of helping all people have a personal encounter with Jesus.
|
Before I took a few days off to help out the good souls in the Diocese of Crookston, MN, I had the opportunity to drive down to Normal, IL for a radio interview about the St. Anne Novena and Feast Day that will be broadcast on Catholic Spirit Radio (https://www.catholicspiritradio.com//) this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (to access the station, CLICK HERE!). An affiliate of EWTN, the station covers a good amount of Illinois, including Rockford, DeKalb, Morris-Joliet, Pontiac-Streator, Bloomington-Normal, Lincoln and Clinton, IL.
During this hour-long interview with Paul Garcia, we have the opportunity to speak a bit about the history of the Village of St. Anne, the history of the Novena itself and all the wonderful things that will take place from July 17-25 (with the evening Masses – sans Sunday – at 7:00 p.m.) and the three feast day Masses at 10:00 a.m. in English (celebrant Bishop Christopher Glancy, CSV), 12:00 noon High Mass in Latin (Fr. Pete as celebrant) and at 2:00 p.m. in Spanish (with Fr. Moises Mesh, CSV and Deacon Arnulfo Cisneros assisting).
After the initial broadcast, the station will offer a link where you can listen to the broadcast at your leisure, so please stay tuned!
| | Over at St. Patrick’s, in the midst of all our Novenas and processions and craziness, I made a promise to St. George Parishioner Danielle Lambert that I would figure out a way to incorporate her audio narrative with her presentation on the Spanish Ministry Program at St. Patrick’s. Figuring out how to do this, I re-uploaded her presentation to illustrate from an outsider’s perspective how wonderful our community in Momence is growing! | |
Meanwhile, an anonymous donor who provided us the funds to Install a Generator at St. Patrick’s Academy Gymnasium and Community Center will be happy to know that the generator will be installed this week! With the number of power outages that take place in our area, we are one step closer to helping out the city of Momence, as we are trying to do at St. Anne later this summer. At both parishes, the donations for the St. Anne air conditioning system, St. Pat’s Generator, St. Anne’s septic problem and the St. Anne Mailing would have cost a great deal of money. The relationships we build with our friends from the outside has netted us over $50,000 that we otherwise would have had to provide to make these dreams a reality… and none of the funding came from the parish accounts!
Finally, each year I have promised the good folks at Lake Itasca Park near Park Rapids, MN (Diocese of Crookston) that I would cover a Sunday Mass for them in the summer during camping season. As a parish, St. Catherine’s Church was closed in 1999, but the residents of the area made a deal with their bishop to maintain the upkeep of the church, and, in return, the bishop would allow Sunday Masses to be celebrated at St. Catherine’s during the camping season (Memorial Day – Labor Day). Almost a hundred residents and campers attended last Sunday’s Mass after which some of them treated me to breakfast at the local bar and grill (in this case, Lobo’s Restaurant), located about a mile away from the church. The residents provide a home for the priests to stay in return for these church services. Thank you, Dave & Pat, for the kindness you afford the people of the area… and me! … with this wonderful opportunity of grace!
The Saturday, Rick Preston and Mary Jo Boicken from St. Patrick’s is heading up the St. Patrick’s Golf Outing. Our goal for this outing is to raise funds to pave the gymnasium parking lot, which will cost us somewhere in the vicinity of $200,000 (Ted Peterson is looking into options for us - Thanks Ted!). You can still help us raise funds by donating a Sponsor Sign ($100) or an item for our raffle baskets. Contact Rick with any comments or assistance at the phone number below.

Mass for the
12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Celebrated at St. Anne's Church - St. Anne, IL
Referencing his own "rocky boat" experiences, Fr. Pete offers a homily about the one boat in which we find safety in the torrential waters that the devil and society often create - the boat or "nave" of a church that gives us calm in a sinful world that guides us to the peace of heaven.

UPCOMING PROJECTS
AT ST. PATRICK'S
| |
WE HAVE REDUCED OUR PARISH DEBT AT ST. PATRICK'S BY A FACTOR OF OVER $250,000 IN THE LAST TWO YEARS!!!
St. Patrick’s Church Debt finally is now just above $80,000 but we still have a bit to go. We talked about how that debt grew to over $330,000 and how our business managers have been able to reduce it by a factor of $250,000 in two years. Before we can get to the other side of our ledger at Pat’s (and think about parking lots, classrooms for our kids, etc.), this debt needs to be eradicated. Thanks for those who have helped us reduce our debt and please consider doing what you can to lowering it even further!
