News & Notes from Fr. Pete Jankowski

Please Join Us in Welcoming the Bishop to the Border Town Parishes!

I guess the cat has been let out of the bag...

One of the reasons I asked Mr. Shannon Anderson (Momence Superintendent of Public Schools) to write a formal letter to St. Patrick's Church (asking permission of the Church to allow the school kids to use the parish gymnasium as an emergency shelter) was because we needed some type of documentation stating that this particular building on our property serves as a type of "Community Center" for Momence that is unique to the city. As St. Anne's Church and Hall are rather self-sufficient, St. Patrick's depends on the help of others in the community to maintain that particular building, both for the benefit of the parish and the city of Momence as well.

Because of that letter (among other things), we have been able to apply for grant money to sustain that gym. Towards that cause, Lorri Simpson and Gene Rademacher have been able to write a grant proposal to the county, which netted the parish a $10,000 gift to help upgrade the gym. Ford & Sons Concrete Inc. donated their material and labor for the $1,000 cement pad that lines our new bathroom floor. We have spoken about the generosity of Van Drunen Farms and others towards our gym work. Parishioner Michael Plein is helping us build a warming kitchen in the gymnasium as well.

I honestly believe that, as a general rule, good begets good - especially with people of faith, showing that we care can produce great fruit, in my experience. I keep hearing from those in the community how welcoming and loving our communities have been. This is due to YOU!!! - to all of us - living the Golden Rule and doing our part in building the kingdom of God. For that, I very much give thanks to all of you for doing your part in maintaining what we have.

I certainly wish to thank Mayor David O'Connell and the members of the St. Anne Village Board for their $6,500+ gift towards that church sidewalk project at St. Anne's as well. St. Anne's is not bursting at the seam with finances but the members of that board understand the importance of our campus and what it symbolizes in the city. God bless our mayor and all our citizenry for helping us maintain what we have!

I am humbled that over sixty souls attended our three nightly reflections during our Parish Mission with Fr. Tom McCarthy on November 27-29. The videos from that mission are found in this note. I am told that these parishes have not hosted a mission in decades so to have this type of turnout the first time out is wonderful!

This week, Bishop Ronald Hicks visits our parish communities at our Sunday Masses. It would serve us well if the communities came to these Masses in full force to show the bishop that we care for our parishes. Regardless, please know that I care for YOU!!! and will do what I can to support you in this cause of faith. God bless.

PARISH MISSION

Highlights from this year's Parish Mission with Fr. Tom McCarthy, OSA on November 27-28

From One of Our Online Friends...

Thank you for putting the parish mission online. I watched all three of Father McCarthy's talks. It meant so much to me. The end of November is my time of reflection. Three major things in my life took place at the end of this month - my grandmother's death (November 27) and my first pastor's death (November 28) and my parents wedding anniversary (November 30). These three individuals had the most influence on my life. I reflected on the old days the parish had missions similar to this one. You are doing a great job helping me bring back the beautiful memories. Thank you for everything you are doing. Everything is very much appreciated,

As the bishop attempts to visit all the parishes in the diocese before his consolidation plan takes effect in 2024, it would be nice if we make a nice showing at all our Masses that Sunday.
