News & Notes with Fr. Pete Jankowski

Congratulations / Felicidades

Dc. Jhobany Orduz!

Feel free to contact Fr. Pete at email pjankowski@yahoo.com. If you have an emergency, please contact Fr. Pete at (815) 685-1359

On April 6, 2024 Bishop Christopher Glancy, CSV ordained Brother Jhobany Orduz, CSV as a deacon of the Catholic Church (the step before being ordained a priest). Deacon Jhobany was ordained at Maternity BVM Church in Bourbonnais, the main parish served by the Viatorian Community in Joliet.

The following day, three of Jhobany’s Viatorian priest friends from Columbia celebrated a Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Momence, where the good deacon preached his first Mass in Spanish. Assisted by Deacon John Eustice, CSV (who will be ordained priest later this summer in Las Vegas), a large contingency of St. Patrick’s faith attended by his ordination Mass and his first preached Mass in Spanish. We were honored to host this liturgy for our Viatorian friends, who have served both of the Border Town Parishes over the last one hundred plus years.

Below is the video of Deacon Jhobany’s First Preached Mass at St. Patrick’s Church. We also included a link where you can view ALL the pictures we took of his Ordination and First Mass.

While all of this took place last week, Gabby the Basset Hound decided to “Photo-Bomb” our weekend liturgies and our Divine Mercy Holy Hour last Sunday. We also thank the St. Patrick’s CCW for putting together gift bags for our local shut-ins (St. Anne’s Religious Ed and the Sodality of St. Anne do the same thing at the other parish as well). Our Easter promise to serve the needy was very much alive at our parishes last week!

After receiving all these pictures from last weekend’s events, I got re-introduced to the “Smug Mug” Website online, which allows the faithful to download pictures of our various events FOR FREE. Hopefully this will come in handy when we celebrate our Confirmation Liturgies on Saturday - April 27, 2024 (St. Anne’s at 2:00 p.m. and St. Patrick’s at 4:00 p.m.) and our First Communion Liturgies on Sunday – May 5, 2024 (St. Anne’s at 9:00 a.m. and St. Patrick’s at 10:30 a.m.).

Thanks to Jim Studer and Fast Printing of Joliet, IL we were able to reproduce those nice watercolor images of St. Patrick’s and St. Anne’s, turning them into greeting cards for our Border Town Parishes! For the time being, we are charging $25 for books of twenty cards. You can purchase these cards at either parish office.

In the meantime, we get ready for the Blessing of Seeds for Planting this weekend at our Masses and prepare for our special liturgies for the students later this month. This weekend, I have been asked to take my university teaching skills to Immaculate Conception Parish in Morris, IL to offer a workshop on “End of Life” issues for their Right to Life Group and another workshop at St. John Paul II for the Hispanic Community entitled, “Faith and Family.” Lots of work but lots of faith as well!

ONLINE VIDEOS THIS WEEK

Mass for the Third Sunday of Easter

Celebrated at St. Patrick's Church - Momence, IL

Reflecting on the importance of supporting vocations to the priesthood and religious life, Fr. Pete's homily focuses on the essential role that a priest plays in today's society, serving as the "gateway" to the sacraments through which we find our Lord's grace. Included in this Mass is the Blessing of Seeds for Planting Time, the yearly custom for farmers each Spring.

ALSO INCLUDED WITH THIS VIDEO ARE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DIACONATE ORDINATION MASS OF DEACON JHOBANY ORDUZ, CSV ON APRIL 6, 2024 AT MATERNITY BVM CHURCH IN BOURBONNAIS, IL.
