Cedar Lake– Over the weekend, Dimas Gabriel Yanes was apprehended by local law enforcement agencies after stabbing a teenage girl at a baseball game in Lowell, IN, part of Randy Niemeyer's Lake County Council District. Charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery with a serious bodily injury to a person under 14 and the defendant is 18 or older, and battery by means of a deadly weapon were filed on Tuesday in Lake County. He had been deported to Honduras in 2018 and under the Biden-Harris Administration's open border policies, reentered the country illegally in 2022 and has since committed crimes in at least four other states.
To date, Congressman Frank Mrvan remains silent on the issue, and in Congress, has voted against securing our borders at every turn.
-
Mrvan voted against H.R. 2 which would have constructed barriers along the southern border, provided support for border patrol agents, required employers to implement E-verify, and invested in innovative technologies for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
-
Mrvan voted against H.R. 3941, prohibiting the use of public schools for the housing of migrants.
-
Mrvan voted against the Protecting Our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act.
-
Mrvan voted against Denouncing the Biden administration's Open- Border Policies.
Upon hearing the news that the suspect was charged, Randy NIemeyer, Lake County Councilman, and Republican Nominee for U.S. Congress in Indiana's First District issued the following statement:
“The horrific stabbing of a young teenage girl in Lowell, by a suspect tied to the violent MS-13 gang, is a wake-up call for all of us. I am praying for her complete recovery, and we must come together as a community to support her and her family. Thank you to the law enforcement agencies in the area that worked together to apprehend him before he could cause more harm. We cannot allow such dangerous individuals into our communities in the first place. Frank Mrvan's repeated votes against securing our borders have brought the border crisis to our backyard. Enough is enough—our children's safety is non-negotiable."
