Maltz Museum plays key role in Munich’s Eichmann exhibit


In Munich, directly across from Führerbau, a building built during Nazi Germany and used by Adolf Hitler, sits a piece of Cleveland sharing the history of organized genocide and human history. After almost seven years of planning, the exhibit, “Operational Finale: The Capture & Trail of Adolf Eichmann,” made its way from the Maltz Museum in Beachwood to the State Museum of Egyptian Art in Munich.

Temple Israel Akron congregant has role in Sojourner Truth Project


Some 173 years after Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I A Woman?” speech to the Ohio Women’s Convention, Akron’s Sojourner Truth Project is unveiling a life-size statue and plaza commemorating her legacy. “This speech is considered by historians to be the most important women’s rights speech in our history,” said Jackie Derrow, communications chair of The Sojourner Truth Project. “But people don’t associate it with Akron, Ohio.”

On Memorial Day, Israeli leaders promise brighter future


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Monday that the Israel Defense Forces would “keep going until the end” to defeat Hamas, as the Jewish state marked its first Memorial Day since the Oct. 7, 2023 massacre. “Pain is everywhere, but so is light. A fighter whose two legs were amputated told me: ‘It is important for us to know that we are going to defeat them,’ not to give up…keep going until the end, until victory,” said Netanyahu at the ceremony on Mount Herzl.

Duke protesters walk out on Seinfeld at graduation


As Jewish comedian Jerry Seinfeld received an honorary degree during Duke University’s commencement celebration in Durham, N.C. on Sunday, anti-Israel protesters marched out, chanting “Free, free Palestine.” Many students booed the protesters. Outside the stadium where the ceremony took place, graduates walked around campus, chanting “Disclose. Divest. We will not stop. We will not rest,” The New York Times reported.

Lew: Biden admin has no ‘real disagreements’ with Israel


Washington has no “real disagreements” with Israel over its targeted raid in eastern Rafah and war aim of destroying the remaining Hamas battalions in Gaza’s southernmost city, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew claimed in an interview with Channel 12 on Sunday. The interview came just days after U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that the Biden administration decided to withhold approval of a sale to Israel of two types of precision-guided bombs.

State Department report cites ‘credible’ Israeli violations of international law, but recommends continuing military aid


The U.S. State Department told Congress there were credible reports that Israel had violated international law in its war against Hamas, but recommended against cutting defense assistance to the country. The report, published Friday, cited steps Israel has taken to mitigate harm to civilians, and noted the difficulty the Israeli military faces while fighting Hamas, a terror group that has embedded itself among civilians in the Gaza Strip.
