Maltz Museum hires new executive director


Aaron Petersal was appointed as the next executive director of the Maltz Museum in Beachwood, effective June 1, according to a news release. Petersal will succeed David Schafer, former managing director of the museum, who announced his retirement in February, the release stated.

Park Synagogue Reaching for the Stars June 2


Park Synagogue will host its Reaching for the Stars gala for “an elegant evening of reflection, vision and celebration” on June 2. The program will begin with the recognition of the synagogue’s past presidents – Mitchell Balk, Bob Brenner, Mark Froimson, Stuart Garson, Marvin Karp, Judy Kaufman, Andy Randall, Susan Ratner and Peter Rzepka – followed by the honoring of Albert Ratner with Park Synagogue’s Inaugural Lifetime Legacy Award and the debut of the Judy Kaufman History Space.

Biden admin confirms blocking arms shipment to Israel over Rafah


The Biden administration on Tuesday night confirmed reports that it had held up a munitions shipment to Israel. A senior official told CBS News that the United States last week stopped a delivery of thousands of heavy bombs over fears that they could be used during Israel’s military operation in Rafah.

Presumed hostage Lior Rudaeff confirmed dead


Israeli Lior Rudaeff was declared dead on Tuesday night, exactly seven months after he was presumed to have been abducted by Hamas terrorists during the Oct. 7 massacre. A statement from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak did not provide additional details. Rudaeff, an ambulance driver and volunteer medic, fought alongside the kibbutz’s security team during the Hamas invasion.

Kerem Shalom reopens to Gaza aid days after deadly Hamas attack


Israel reopened the Kerem Shalom crossing with the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning after a deadly Hamas rocket attack from Rafah on Sunday caused its closure. “Following the closure of Kerem Shalom crossing due to rocket fire by Hamas, the Kerem Shalom Crossing is now open for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip,” tweeted the Israeli Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
