CWRU responds to student protesters’ demands at press conference


Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland was quick to respond to student protesters that were holding a press conference in a statement released on May 17. “The university’s Office of Student Conduct has moved expeditiously to determine graduating students’ ability to take part in commencement-related activities,” the statement said. “The office also worked with students who were living in residence halls, were enrolled in dining plans or had on-campus jobs to ensure they had continued access to all necessary services, regardless of person non-grata status.”

TINT celebrates Israel @ 76 with annual parade


Temple Israel Ner Tamid in Mayfield Heights celebrated Israel’s 76th birthday on May 12 with its 17th annual Yom Ha’atzmaut parade. Singing songs of support and unity through a bullhorn, Rabbi Matt Eisenberg led religious school students and teachers, temple members and friends on a one-mile route through the neighborhood, according to a news release. Marchers displayed American and Israeli flags.

DeWine signs legislation to limit cellphones in schools


At a Dublin middle school last week, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed legislation ordering school districts around the state to develop written policies for cellphones on campus. The state education department will write its own model policy that districts may adopt, but so long as they come up with something to keep cellphone use “as limited as possible” districts can do what they like.

Netanyahu rules out Gaza resettlement post-Hamas


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin on Tuesday ruled out resettlement in the Gaza Strip after the war against Hamas. “If you mean resettling Gaza…it was never in the cards, and I said so openly. And some of my constituents are not happy about it, but that’s my position,” the premier said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

US: Israel killed a third of Hamas terrorists


Israel has eliminated only around a third of the Hamas terrorists and tunnels in Gaza since the start of the war on Oct. 7, 2023, Politico reported on Tuesday, citing U.S. intelligence estimates. "Although Hamas’ communications and military abilities have been degraded, only 30 (percent) to 35 percent of its fighters — those who were a part of Hamas before the Oct. 7 attack — have been killed and about 65 percent of its tunnels are still intact, U.S. intelligence indicates,” the Virginia-based news outlet stated.

Ireland, Norway, Spain to recognize Palestinian state


Ireland, Norway and Spain said on Wednesday morning that they will recognize a Palestinian state, prompting Jerusalem to recall its envoys from Dublin and Oslo. Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced in their respective capitals that they will recognize a Palestinian state on May 28. “There cannot be peace in the Middle East if there is no recognition,” Støre opined at a press conference. “The terror has been committed by Hamas and militant groups who are not supporters of a two-state solution and the State of Israel.”
