127-acre Solon Woods State Nature Preserve dedicated



About 40 community members and local and state officials gathered on the morning of April 13 to witness the dedication of Solon Woods as Ohio’s 143rd state nature preserve, making it the first nature preserve in Cuyahoga County. The 127-acre preserve is located off Russell Drive in Solon, outside of the city’s urban center.

Senders Pediatrics presents third Family Kindness Festival



Senders Pediatrics in South Euclid will hold its third Family Kindness Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. April 30 at Beachwood High School. Themed after the “Magic of Kindness,” the first Family Kindness Festival was held in 2019, the brainchild of Joan Morgenstern, director of parent education and community engagement at Senders Pediatrics.

Village Square Pizza reopens in Woodmere


Village Square Pizza reopened at 27349 Chagrin Blvd. in Woodmere. Kind of One Concepts, a Cleveland-based hospitality group owned by Todd Leebow, announced the reopening April 4. Kind of One Concepts acquired Village Square Pizza in 2022 as the restaurant prepared to shutter. The reopening brings an updated menu, pizzas, sandwiches and salads, according to Cleveland Business Journal.

Beachwood grad Gearity named associate dean of U of Denver school


Brian Gearity was recently named associate dean for academic affairs of the graduate school of professional psychology at the University of Denver in Colorado. Gearity is a graduate of Beachwood High School and John Carroll University in University Heights. He earned a Ph.D. in educational leadership from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and is expected to complete his Master of Business Administration degree in June.

Germany sets up panel to review 1972 Munich Olympic attack


The German government said Friday it has set up an international commission of experts to review the events surrounding the 1972 attack on the Munich Olympics, a panel that was part of an agreement reached last year with relatives of the 11 Israeli team members — including David Mark Berger of Shaker Heights — who were killed by Black September, a Palestinian terrorist group.

Swastika carved into back of autistic Jewish teen



A kippah-wearing, nonverbal boy who attends Clark High School in Las Vegas with a service dog and full-time assistant, returned home March 9 with a swastika carved into his back, his mother told The Jewish Press. The school is deflecting responsibility.
