BobBlast #245

How to Begin One Colorful Landscape Design.

Welcome back to another BobBlast!

This short BobBlast is how I begin a loose, colorful landscape, in the comfort and safety of my own studio!

I refer to my favorite four landscape compositions and begin painting - making it all up. I usually
don't copy from a photo. I discovered the unexpected thrill of making an image "from scratch."

This painting demonstration
features the off-balanced, asymmetrical design composition, using a 4 color combination from my Goof-Proof Color Wheel.

Selected Color Combo:
Dominant Color - Blue Green
Focal Point Color - Red
Spice Color - Yellow
Spice Color - Purple

The first step is to wipe a warm tone - I prefer orange - all over the watercolor paper. Let it dry. Next, loosely brush in the strong dominant color - No details yet!
We're concentrating on painting shapes, color and contrast.

Then... I determine the focal point. I make it obvious by using the focal point color indicated on my color wheel. I'm telling you, it's goof-proof!

The two spice colors are placed - sparingly - next to the focal point color. Now, step back and put your painting on the wall - or put a mat on it to isolate the painting. What does it need? A little of this, and a little of that... and it's done!
