BobBlast #225

"Derwent Thataway!"

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

Traveling and sketching on location is easier with less art supplies. No need for heavy paint boxes, easels and backpacks. For me, I've narrowed down the supplies to three things - one watercolor pad, one black sketching pen and Derwent InkTense Pencils and Blocks.

My watercolor pad of choice is Fabriano Studio Watercolor Pad, 9x12 inches, Hot Press (satin smooth finish) 140 lb. With fifty sheets per pad, this smooth Italian paper stays flat, especially when I paint light washes.

Derwent Inktense Pencils and Inktense Blocks are two of my favorite and only color supplies I take with me on location. In fact, this past year on my Riverboat Workshop in France I took only the Fabriano Pad and the Inktense. Without lugging easels, canvas, bags Etc. - my time was well spent in Monet's Garden for impromptu sketching.

Later - I added a little water with a brush and turned the color pencil sketches into glorious vibrant watercolors! The quality of the InkTense Block in a solid form is convenient to quickly do the sketching without all the painting gear.

This Blast illustrates the ease and effectiveness of these two products.

Remember... if the pencil has a paint brush icon on the side, it's water-soluable.
