"Loosen Up! Easy Steps to Paint a Pear ."

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

This demo is an assignment from my Loosen Up with Aquamedia Painting workshop. I developed this workshop over 20 years ago - it is my flagship workshop, designed for beginners and experienced painters who are stuck in a style and just need to loosen up!

The Loosen Up workshop moves quickly, covers basics and advanced techniques. I like to say it is like 4 years of Art School in 5 days! If it dissolves in water, we paint with it!

I am teaching many Loosen Up with Aquamedia Painting workshops this year - I thought I would just show you a little bit of what we do! Today's demo is from DAY ONE - How to paint a simple, single subject - How about a Pear?

My demo of a pear painting starts out by first wiping an orange mid tone over the entire pre-gessoed surface. You'll be smiling because this will be the outdoor festival painting that sells! (people love pears!)

A pear is a ball with a triangle sitting on top. Connect the two and there you have it! Watch the video... You will see how I move the paint all over the place. I work everywhere at once, not just in small sections. I find that it helps to continually unite the painting.

Next, determine your light source - such as a flashlight pointing at a pear that is sitting on a table in a darkened room. The light will be a narrow beam shining on one side of the pear ONLY. Light spills over and lights the wall behind the pear.

Reading from left to right... dark room, light side of pear, dark side of pear, lighted back wall. Dark against Light, Dark against Light.

This is how I paint the illusion of a rounded pear.

Teach yourself to paint pears. Things will be peachy!
