"Part Three - Making a Small Painting BIGGER!"
How I Start a Larger Abstract Painting and Collage...

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

Today's BobBlast is the final, third installment in this short series about how I approach and start a larger abstract painting with collage, using a small paint sketch as the jumping-off-point. I am always curious to see how this final approach will turn out!

I haven't touched the painting since the last time we met... promise!

As you recall, I title the painting first -  Leaving the Nest - so the painting is done... when it matches the title.  For me, my final approach is to remind myself why I wanted to paint this painting in the first place. So, before I get started with this demo, I review my 4 Cs to refocus my original intentions.

4 Cs Reminders:
  1. Concept - the title.
  2. Composition - the structure. Is the composition still clearly visible?
  3. Color Combination - re-establish the dominant color, focal point color and spice colors. Re-establish my lights and darks to give it additional structure and punch.
  4. Commit to the above - If I want to change my mind mid-painting, what I do is start a new, different painting with a new, different concept.
This painting went through many changes and you can see me work, re-draw, move color and make (and re-make) decisions. I am pretty happy with the completion. I will keep it on the wall in my studio so I can look at it for awhile.  Remember, the small paint sketch was to spark my creativity and get me started. Making a carbon copy was never my intention!

Just Get Started!
