Smithsonian Folklife Circus Festival Paintings - Practicing Small Warmups
Welcome back to another BobBlast.
This one is about watching me paint my small warm ups that I'll be doing at this year's Smithsonian Folklife Circus Festival. This is big news for me and for my circus-themed paintings.
So, in this BobBlast... with these loosely painted warm ups already started, I turn them upside and focus only on color shapes. This helps me keep away from details - a vital step in
painting. For me, it's pure painting - not attempting to make too much sense. I stay close to the established colors, theme and title.
Next, turning the paintings back around, I
simplify areas this a large wide brush, color correcting all over. Finally I remember to STOP TOO SOON. It's a painting with the feeling of plain old goofball happiness with the circus family.
So, during the week of July 4th, I'll be demonstrating on the Washington Mall,
only with paint! I believe this is the closest I'll ever get to hanging out with real circus performers!
And, for my part, I'll be that "monkey in a cage" - HA!
Keep your brushes wet!
