What will they tell us next? The Mormons recently revealed (No shock to many.) that they wear secret underwear for spiritual protection. (See my blog October 24, 2014 "Magic Mormon Underwear." CLICK HERE to read.) Now, this week it's all over the news that they are finally admitting that the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Joseph Smith Jr., had at least 40 wives, including one as young as 14. As recent as 10-20 years ago, even talking about polygamy could be grounds for excommunication from the Mormon Church. Today, because of the Internet, all things unusual are subject to instant exposure, so someone with media savvy in the Church has decided it's probably better to get out in front of these issues. After all, controversy is only a Google search away. Plus the Mormon Church wants its own spin on the topic. In this case, the official position is that Smith wasn't oversexed but merely obedient to an angel who threatened to kill him "unless he went forward and obeyed the commandment [plural wives] fully." Hey, what is a guy to do when a real, live angel says that concubinage is the way to go. The Church also wants it plainly understood that the Smith household wasn't exactly an ongoing orgy. The latest official view is that many of the unions were for "eternity-only sealings," not conjugation. In other words, the founder of Mormonism didn't have sex with all his wives until he went to the Mormon heaven after death.  

I'm guessing that the Mormon Church won't go much further in their admissions about secret beliefs. They will likely never acknowledge:

• Why there are no crosses in a Mormon Church. (To them it doesn't represent the "power of God," as stated in1 Cor. 1:18, but is a pagan symbol.)
• That black people were forever cursed with dark skin because a South American tribe called Lamanites annihilated another tribe called Nephites. (These tribes also lived among elephants in Central America, a laughable belief according to archeologists.)
• Brigham Young, Smith's successor taught the doctrine of blood atonement, that killing as a righteous act earned salvation. (Early Jihadism?)
• The Mountain Meadows massacre, the Mormon murderous slaughter of an entire non-Mormon emigrant party (120 men, women, and children) that dared to enter Mormon Utah territory in 1857.
• The Mormon god has a physical body and a wife who gives physical birth to all humans who were once preexistent spirits.
• God deliberately planned for Adam to sin so that humans could have sex, procreate, and once again become gods, equal to Jehovah, in a Mormon heaven.
• A Mormon woman cannot be resurrected from the grave unless she has a Mormon husband who knows her secret name, given in secret temple ceremonies, to call her forth; hence the need for polygamy to make sure every Mormon woman has a husband.
• If a Mormon encounters a ghost/apparition/demon, he must shake the hand of the entity to know if it's good or evil. (Only a good angel would know the secret Mason-derived, Mormon handshake.)

This list of what Mormons could go on for many more pages. There just isn't room enough in this blog to reveal all the strange ideas that are secretly held in Mormonism. The Church has been forced by modern media to come out of the closet in some area, but don't expect full disclosure on Mormon beliefs and practices, many of which can lead to demomization, any time soon.
