Boater Advocacy - Boaters 4 Dana Point Harbor

Many harbors are not fortunate enough to have any recreational boater advocacy groups.  That is not the case here in Dana Point Harbor.  We at Boaters 4 Dana Point Harbor take great pride in effectively advocating for recreational boaters in our harbor and throughout our state. 

As Orange County (OC DPH) is extremely well funded by our taxes and fees, and making ample use of consultants and lobbyists, we feel it is vital that we remain ever vigilant for Dana Point harbor boaters.  The Merchants are also very well-funded and represented by the Harbor Association, the Merchants' Association and the Dana Point Harbor Now organization that was created by Government Solutions, Inc., who were hired by the harbor department (OC DPH).

We believe our record speaks for itself.  We, Boaters 4 Dana Point Harbor, are the only organization in Dana Point Harbor that has spoken publicly, be it at the City, County or State level and consistently offered solutions that would preserve and protect recreational boating in our harbor, while opposing the County's continual draw down of recreational boating resources.

Most recently, we were the only organization in the harbor to stand up to the County and their Project Manager on "trueing up the numbers" of slips, parking spaces, and dry storage before new construction is permitted. The remaining organizations, including the Dana Point Boaters Association, gave their support to OC DPH.  If allowed to stand, this means the County can strip boaters of 100's of dry boat storage locations, eliminate boater parking spaces and wet slips.  State law is on our side, but "Harbor Politics" are not.  It is unfortunate that these politics are paid for in large part by your exorbitant slip fees.

We encourage you to stay informed and look at the facts objectively.  Reducing recreational boating resources with ever-increasing expenses is not the "Revitalization" that should have the support of Dana Point boaters.  Politics can be unpleasant; letting bullies take advantage of recreational boaters will be more unpleasant.
