Key Points from the Regular Meeting

held on June 5, 2024

  • The Board approved the tentative budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 in the amount of $1,115,788,702. This budget proposes a primary property tax rate of $3.4500, a decrease from last year. The Truth in Taxation Hearing and final budget adoption are scheduled for July 3, 2024. (Item 16)
  • Item 10 was moved to the beginning of the meeting, where Community Development Director Brent Billingsley updated the board on a letter submitted by the applicant requesting to withdraw their permit application for a cell tower located on the west side of Hwy 79. The board convened into an Executive Session shortly after to discuss the request, the item was then denied with a written statement entered and read into the Record. (Item 10)
  • In an update on the 2024 state and federal legislative session, Supervisor Miller discussed the current pending legislation, Senate Bill 1172, which relates to water issues in Arizona. He stated the consensus on the bill is that it would pass as long as Pinal County was extracted from the bill; He stressed the importance for constituents to contact their legislators to ensure that Pinal County is included in a solution that includes all Arizonans. (Item 4)
  • In the County Manager's report, Leo Lew told the board about Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert M. Brutinel and Vice Chief Justice Ann A. Scott Timmer's recent visit to Pinal County as part of their statewide tour to discuss their strategic agenda and local issues. One key topic discussed during their visit was improving legal services and access for constituents in rural communities. Chief Justice Brutinel and Vice Chief Justice Timmer are pictured below, along with Pinal County Superior Court Presiding Judge Joseph R. Georgini and Superior Court Judges and staff. (Item 2)
  • In the Supervisor District Updates item, District 1 Supervisor Kevin Cavanaugh discussed two upcoming Town Hall events in his district. Click here for more information on those events. District 4 Supervisor Jeffrey McClure said he will attend the Youth CSI summer camp event this week. The Youth CSI Summer Camp is an immersive experience hosted by the County Attorney's Office that allows students to see the various roles in the criminal justice field. Click here to learn more. District 5 Supervisor Jeff Serdy once again reminded everyone to be conscious of fire danger and the current fire restrictions, updated as of June 6 and can be viewed here. And finally, District 2 Supervisor Mike Goodman gave a recap of the Bike Rodeo event hosted by his office last month. They received over 40 bikes, donated to those in need; a recap of the event can be viewed in the video below. (Item 3)
  • An update was given on the Internal Audit Plan for FY 24-26. It was discussed in the update that county IT is in the process of implementing a new payroll implementation system through ADP. Next year, the audit plan is slated to look at the constituent service model to identify the ease and accessibility of county services for constituents. (Item 5)
  • The Board approved, as presented with stipulations, two planning and zoning items related to the development of a self-storage facility on a ±3.64 acre parcel located at the SE corner of E. Skyline Drive and N. Sierra Vista Drive in San Tan Valley. (Items 11/12)
