Support our Shelter Pets
Across the country, shelters and rescues are overflowing with pets of all shapes and sizes. From dogs to rabbits and everything in between, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter is no exception.
If you are looking for a new pet family member, please consider adopting. In addition, some shelter pets do poorly in a shelter environment while waiting for their forever family. Please also consider fostering to provide the pets a temporary loving home and help them adjust to a family setting.
Volunteering is also a fantastic way to contribute. Whether you walk dogs, socialize with cats, or assist with events, your time and effort can positively impact these pets. You are also welcome to shop their wish list to donate supplies directly.

Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention
Since school's out for the summer, children will be away from their regular routines, familiar daily activities, and school support systems. Summer camps and extended childcare are an added expense for most families, and as a result, some children will be spending more time unsupervised over the summer. In addition, for children and families who normally rely on school resources such as free and reduced lunch, the summer can be a time of significant food insecurity. Children's lives can be positively changed and even saved by active and aware community members making that critically important decision to ask more questions and offer help.

Benefits of Transit to the Capital Region
A new research and analysis, commissioned by Metro, demonstrates transit's critical importance to the National Capital Region. When we invest in transit, our community thrives.
Investing in transit benefits everyone, whether they ride or not. Without transit, the region would lose over $9 billion worth of economic activity and business output due to heavy traffic congestion, lack of access to jobs, and much slower movement of goods.

Live Oak Drive Bridge Work Planned through July 5th
Concrete that will form the deck of the new Live Oak Drive bridge will be pumped from mixer trucks stationed on the eastbound lane of the existing Live Oak Drive bridge. Continuous pours of large quantities of concrete are necessary to ensure the structural integrity of the concrete deck. This work is essential to the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.
If you have questions about the 495 NEXT project, email 495NorthernExtension@vdot.virginia.gov, call 703-691-6715, or attend a Drop-In Public Hours this summer.
