CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Stylus - Blum's Resident Selection Tool
The Marketing and Business Development teams have been working together over the last several months to rebrand Blum's Resident Selection software and develop better ways to promote it. One of the results of this work is the new "Stylus" promotional video which explains what the tool is and how it serves senior living communities.

Do your research. Dig deep to understand the who, why, what, and how of everything we do. Details often make or break accomplishments. Remember that our clients hire us to solve problems, and problem-solving involves research.
Respond with a sense of urgency. People correlate caring to the timeliness of the response. Don't prioritize the importance of something without responding.
IMPLEMENTING THE FRANK FACTORS
Johnny Branch and University Towers
Have you ever encountered a building with the fire suppression and HVAC hydronic piping systems looped together? Nope. In 1988, that’s exactly how the University Towers building at NC State was constructed. The university acquired the building in May of this year, and no one completely understood the system.
Senior Superintendent Johnny Branch committed to sweating the details to learn the system as best he could. One afternoon, he noticed that while the rooftop units were off, the hydronic system had no way to dissipate the heat. The piping was scalding to the touch. Fearing that the piping temperature would fast approach 150°F and cause the sprinkler heads around the building to burst and discharge, Johnny responded urgently and shut down the system.
Johnny’s commitment to sweating the details and responding with a sense of urgency likely saved the building from a massive flood. Way to go Johnny!

SHOUT OUT to the Thomasville MRI Medical Center Project Team!
An impressive temporary entrance, complete with Blum branded windscreen and American flag, stands proudly at the Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center MRI Replacement project.
Superintendent, Jack Hartley says, "The scaffolding is our job site entrance, which is through an exterior window opening we had to take out to remove the MRI machine from the building, and where the new MRI machine will go into in the building in July." This temporary entrance makes it possible for the team to move in and out of the building freely, without having to go through the hospital. What a brilliant use of materials and skills to make a jobsite more efficient and effective, and to represent the Blum name.
Shout out to the Thomasville Medical Center project team for their resourcefulness, and planning and execution skills!

Classroom Day at Stevens Center
On June 27th, the Summer Interns participated in a Classroom Day at the UNCSA Stevens Center in downtown Winston-Salem, where Blum team members taught them about their roles and responsibilities for the project, and what goes on in their respective departments.
Jack McKnight, who is currently an intern on the Stevens Center project, hosted the group along with Superintendent Josh Brundige. In addition to learning about the project's life cycle, the interns were treated to a tour of the historic space.
Kudos to the team for their enthusiasm, and for sharing the passion they have for their roles at Blum Construction and the Stevens Center project!
