Just like the busy cicadas flying all over the place, things are really buzzing at the JSU Canyon Center. There is so much happening, it is hard to keep track!
So, a few things that I would really like to make known are highlighted right here.
First, one of my favorite annual canyon occasions is Bluegrass on the Rim. It’s back, but this year with a new band and a special performer well-known for her fiddle playing and work with the Alabama Band. The new band is the Steel City Jug Slammers and the featured artist, new to the Canyon Stage, is Megan Mullis Owen. Returning to the stage will be the Foggy Hollow and our other featured artist, Kelli Johnson. It’s going to be a great evening so get your tickets now!
In addition, this month, we will host training for the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police, conduct Canyon Camp (see below) and we’ll also feature another favorite we call Bio Blitz. Bio Blitz is an annual event dedicated to the exploration and documentation of our biological diversity. It is open to everyone and highlights exciting fieldwork and a special “Native Habitat Project” presentation by Kyle Lybarger set for 6:00 p.m. Please join us and check out the details on Facebook.
Now that it’s officially Summer, I do hope that you’ll have time to slow down and take advantage of the Canyon Center and everything we have to offer. As always, please let us know how we can best serve your interests and needs.
