Join us for a Zoom conversation with the devoted Bundist and Yiddish activist
Elliott (Elye) Palevsky
We will talk about his family's history in Lithuania and then in America, what it was like to grow up in a Bundist home, what it means to be a Bundist today, and what he thinks about the future of the movement. We will also talk about his various roles in Yiddish organizations over the years.
(The conversation will be in Yiddish.)

Elliott (Elye) Palevsky was born in New York to a prominent Bundist family from Lithuania. He has been active for decades in various Yiddish organizations in New York, among them: as a culture director at Camp Hemshekh (New York); a board member of the League for Yiddish, and more. He has taught Yiddish language, literature and culture at the Yiddish Institute (Vilnius University), Queens College (New York), and Workmen’s Circle and Sholem Aleichem Schools.

בײַם צוקוקן זיך צום וואַרשטאַט וועט איר האָבן די געלעגנהייט זיך צו באַקענען מיט באַסמאַן בן־חיימס לידער פֿון פֿאַרשיידענע תּקופֿות. מיר לייענען און רעדן זיי אַרום אין איינעם, אונטער דער אָנפֿירונג פֿון ד״ר מרים טרין, וואָס רעמט אײַן באַסמאַנס פּאָעטישע שאַפֿונג אין אַ היסטאָריש־ביאָגראַפֿישן קאָנטעקסט.

(Vilkomir/Ukmergė, 1925 – Herzliah, 2023)
Her passing marks the end of an entire era in the world of Yiddish letters. She was a wonderful person with a rich life that was reflected in her poetry.
We invite you to watch this interactive workshop, where you will have the opportunity to get to know her poems from various stages of her life. We read and discuss them together, under the guidance of Dr. Miriam Trinh, who places the poet’s oeuvre in a historical-biographical context.
