בשותּפֿות מיטן ייִוואָ און „יאָ“ – ייִדיש־אָרט
לכּבֿוד און לזכר דער אַנומלט פֿאַרשטאָרבענער ייִדיש־פּאָעטעסע
רבֿקה באַסמאַן בן־חיים ז״ל
(ווילקאָמיר, 1925 – הרצליה, 2023)
מיט איר פּטירה האָט זיך געענדיקט אַ גאַנצע ליטעראַרישע עפּאָכע אין דער ייִדיש־וועלט. זי איז געווען אַ טײַערער מענטש מיט אַ רײַך לעבן וואָס שפּיגלט זיך אָפּ אין איר פּאָעזיע.
פֿאַרבעטן מיר אײַך אויף אַן אינטעראַקטיוון וואַרשטאַט, וווּ איר וועט האָבן די געלעגנהייט זיך צו באַקענען מיט באַסמאַן בן־חיימס לידער פֿון פֿאַרשיידענע תּקופֿות. מיר וועלן זיי לייענען און אַרומרעדן אין איינעם, אונטער דער אָנפֿירונג פֿון ד״ר מרים טרין, וואָס וועט אײַנרעמען באַסמאַנס פּאָעטישע שאַפֿונג אין אַ היסטאָריש־ביאָגראַפֿישן קאָנטעקסט.

for a Zoom workshop honoring the memory of the Yiddish poet who recently left us
Rivka Basman Ben-Hayim z”l
(Vilkomir/Ukmergė, 1925 – Herzliah, 2023)
Her passing marks the end of an entire era in the world of Yiddish letters. She was a wonderful person with a rich life that was reflected in her poetry.
We invite you to this interactive workshop, where you will have the opportunity to get to know her poems from various stages of her life. We will read and discuss them together, under the guidance of Dr. Miriam Trinh, who will place the poet’s oeuvre in a historical-biographical context.

און הערט וועגן ייִדיש אין ישׂראל, ספּעציעל איר חודשלעכע פּובליקאַציע „וואָס? ווען? וווּ?“, אַ בולעטין וואָס לאָזט וויסן אַלץ וואָס קומט פֿאָר אינעם קומעדיקן חודש אין ישׂראל בנוגע ייִדיש. מיר וועלן אויך רעדן וועגן איר טאַטן, דעם שרײַבער ירחמיאל בריקס, אין ליכט פֿון איר פֿאָרשאַרבעט, און ווערק וואָס זי האָט געשריבן וועגן אים. מיר וועלן אויך שמועסן וועגן אירע פֿאַרשידענע ראָלעס אין ייִדישע אָרגאַניזאַציעס.

בעלאַ בריקס-קלײַן איז געבוירן געוואָרן אין שטאָקהאָלם. זי איז אַ טאָכטער פֿונעם פֿעיִקן חורבן־שרײַבער ירחמיאל בריקס. דער ייִוואָ און SAIH האָבן אַראָפּגעבראַכט זייער משפּחה קיין אַמעריקע, און אירע קינדער־יאָרן האָט זי פֿאַרבראַכט אין מאַנהעטן. זי האָט דערנאָך עולה געווען, און האָט פֿאַרענדיקט איר מאַגיסטער אינעם העברעיִשן אוניווערסיטעט אין ירושלים, מיט אַן אַרומנעמיקער טעזע וועגן איר טאַטנס לעבן און שריפֿטן וואָס ער האָט באַגראָבן אין, און שפּעטער געראַטעוועט פֿון, לאָדזשער געטאָ.
אין די לעצטע יאָרן האָט זי זיך אָפּגעגעבן מיטן ווײַטער פֿירן איר טאַטנס ווערק און פֿאַרשפּרייטן די ייִדישע שפּראַך, קולטור און ליטעראַטור. הײַנט איז זי אַ קאָאָרדינאַטאָרשע אין „בית־שלום־עליכם“ אין תּל־אָבֿיבֿ. זי איז דער פֿאַרטרעטער פֿונעם ייִדישן „פֿאָרווערטס“ אין ישׂראל, און אינטערװיויִרערשע און איבערזעצערין בײַם „יד־ושם“, „CSU־חורבן־פֿונדאַציע“ (noitadnuoF haohS CSU), און בײַם „ייִדיש־שפּיל“ טעאַטער. זי טרעט אויף מיט איר אַליין געשריבענער סאָלאָ־פֿאָרשטעלונג „מײַן טאַטנס טאָכטער“ אויף ייִדיש, ענגליש און העברעיִש. דאָרט, מיט אַרײַנגעפֿלאָכטענע ייִדישע לידער, ברענגט זי איר קול ווי אַ קינד פֿונעם צווייטן דור לעבן־געבליבענע ייִדן.

Hear about Yiddish in Israel, especially about her monthly publication "Vos? Ven? Vu?" (What? When? Where?), a bulletin that lets you know about all the events in the upcoming month in Israel regarding Yiddish. We will also talk about her father, the writer Rachmil Bryks, in light of her research and works which she wrote about him. We will also talk about her various roles in Yiddish organizations and more.

Bella Bryks-Klein was born in Stockholm, a daughter of the talented Yiddish Holocaust writer Rachmil Bryks. The YIVO and HIAS brought their family to the U.S., where she spent her childhood in Manhattan. She later moved to Israel and graduated with a Master's from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with a comprehensive thesis about her father's life and manuscripts buried in, and recovered from, the Lodz Ghetto.
In recent years she has dedicated herself to continuing her father's work and disseminating the Yiddish language, culture and literature. Today she is a Coordinator at “Beth Shalom Aleichem” in Tel Aviv, representative of the Yiddish “Forward” in Israel, and interviewer and translator for “Yad Vashem”, Steven Spielberg's “USC Shoah Foundation” in Israel, and “Yiddishpiel” theater.
She is currently performing her one-woman show "Mayn Tatns Tokhter" (My Father's Daughter) - in Yiddish, English and Hebrew. Interspersed with Yiddish songs, it is a personal view of growing up as a second-generation survivor.
