Black Forest Road

Construction Update

Aug. 16, 2024

Major paving operation, intersection closures Aug. 19-24

Major paving operations on Black Forest Road during the week of Aug. 19 will impact two cross streets with closures on separate days. These operations are necessary to complete a significant amount of the remaining paving for the east side of Black Forest Road.  Black Forest Road will remain open with one lane in each direction during this work. Impacts to cross streets are as noted below.

  • Vollmer Road will be closed at Black Forest Road from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, until 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.

  • Cowpoke Road east of Black Forest Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. Cowpoke Road west of Black Forest will remain open during this time.

During these respective closures, there will be no turns to or from Black Forest Road

east of those intersections. Additionally:

  • On Thursday, Aug. 22, motorists on northbound Black Forest Road will encounter ongoing lane shifts as paving crews move north along the roadway.

  • Access to driveways within the project limits north of the bridge over Cottonwood Creek will be controlled by flaggers during paving at those locations to ensure the safety of crews and motorists.

Detour for Vollmer Road closure Aug. 21-22

During the Vollmer Road closure, trucks that typically use Vollmer Road to access Black Forest Road will be required to detour on Vollmer Road to Cowpoke Road, east to Marksheffel Road, then south to westbound Woodmen Road to return to Black Forest Road. Note: This detour has been coordinated with construction work on Cowpoke Road east of Vollmer Road, which is expected to be completed Saturday, Aug. 17.

Other traffic changes on Vollmer Road for motorists include:

  • Westbound Vollmer Road traffic may use Cowpoke Road west to Black Forest Road or east to Marksheffel Road. Forest Meadows Avenue will also be open east to Cowpoke Road as an alternate route.

  • Eastbound Vollmer Road truck traffic will be detoured south on Black Forest Road, east on Woodmen Road then north on Marksheffel Road to westbound Cowpoke Road where they can access Vollmer Road.

  • Other eastbound Vollmer Road traffic may use Black Forest Road to Cowpoke Road, then east to Vollmer Road.

Detour for Cowpoke Road closure Aug. 24

Westbound traffic on Cowpoke Road to Black Forest Road:

  • South on Vollmer Road to Black Forest Road.

Traffic continuing east on Cowpoke Road from Black Forest Road:

  • South on Black Forest Road to Vollmer Road
