An Update from BCHS on our COVID-19 response
Bishop Chatard's hybrid Blue/White class schedule completed its fourth full week today. As communicated in this week's parent newsletter, the Blue/White class schedule has been extended for two additional weeks. Currently, our plan is to continue this schedule through Friday, Sept. 18, and then transition to having the full student body in attendance starting Monday, Sept. 21. You will receive further information as we approach Sept. 21. Bishop Chatard's daily schedule can be viewed here.

The BC leadership team continues to take very seriously its commitment to transparency concerning COVID-19 cases at Bishop Chatard. During the past week, we had one new positive COVID-19 test result reported to school officials. While we remain vigilant, we believe that our safety protocols are working.

Following are a few reminders for parents:

  • If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or is quarantining due to COVID-19 exposure, please contact BCHS using the email address medical@bishopchatard.org. A list of information to be provided in that email is available on the BCHS Re-Entry webpage. Please note that the medical@bishopchatard.org email address is to be used only to report COVID-19 positive test results or quarantining due to exposure, and report COVID-related absences. Standard school procedures should still be used to report a daily absence for COVID-19 or for other reasons, or to ask health-related questions. View Bishop Chatard's standard procedure for reporting absences here.
  • Please remember, students do not have the day-to-day choice to stay home and participate in virtual learning without approval from administration. For attendance purposes it is extremely important that students and families honor our daily school schedule and attend in person and virtually with the group to which they are assigned. If a student does not get prior approval from administration to be virtual, he/she will be counted as absent.
  • Students are still permitted to go to scheduled appointments on either an in-person or virtual day. Please note that if it is a virtual day and your student has an appointment, he/she will still need to be called in through SchoolMessenger and the time of early departure/late arrival will need to be stated. A doctor’s note is still required to verify all appointments.
  • Any student who is symptomatic may return to school after the following criteria have been met: 24 hours resolution of fever AND A note from a healthcare provider stating that "(Student's name) may return to school on (specific date) and his/her illness was not related to COVID-19." Language about the specifics of the alternate diagnosis should be included in the doctor's note.

The assistance of all parents to remind students to follow safety protocols including the wearing of face masks, frequent washing of hands and staying home if they feel they have any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 is very much appreciated.
