October is here and time to reconnect with TTN!
Autumn colors are all around us with a definite chill in the air. We are back from vacations and are preparing for the coming of winter. It's time to make sure we are connecting with all of our friends in our SIG groups and Peer groups. Make sure you have renewed your membership and plan to bring a friend to our October meeting or the Meet & Greet in November. Plus, if your friends join now they can take part in our holiday party in December!
LET"S Go! LET"S GROW!
campaign will run through December 2017.
Our Goal is 90 members!
Any member who recruits a friend will get a special "Thank You" gift,
a TTN cosmetic bag. All you have to do is have your new recruit enter your name as the friend who recruited her and the bag is yours! Or email me and let me know who your recruited. 657-1226
All members who have recruited a new member will receive their gift at our October meeting.
Please bring a friend!
LET"S Go! LET"S GROW!

Mindfulness: What It Is and Why It Matters
Plan to join us October 24th at 5:30 in the Billings Public Library Royal Johnson Community Room
Our presenter is: Janet Dietrich
If "being busy" seems more chaotic than productive and "the urgent" increasingly distracts you from what you know to be important, consider exploring mindfulness.
This talk will introduce you to the definitions, benefits and barriers of mindfulness.
We will end with a brief practice.

Our community outreach for October will be: Family Services
Family Service has been helping neighbors in need for 110 years. They assist struggling households with basic needs: food, clothing, rent and utilities. They also provide support through educational training for better employment, a "Suit Up" program for men entering the workforce and special projects like holiday meals and back-to-school backpacks.
Generous donors and volunteers are vital partners in our work to prevent hunger, homelessness and poverty in Yellowstone County since 1906.
Immediate Needs - Now and Always
- Financial donations to meet the needs of struggling families
- Food box supplies like sandwich & gallon size Ziploc-style freezer bags, canned fruits and veggies, soup, pasta, rice and other non-perishables
- Gently-used clothing, furniture and household items to keep our Family Treasures Thrift Shop

Cravings Book Club Visits Heart Mountain
|
|
During this past summer, the Cravings Book Club chose to read one of Jamie Ford's well-known books entitled Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.
The Cravings members were so inspired by this book, we decided as a group to take a field trip to Heart
Mountain Interpretive Center near Powell, WY. The Heart Mountain Interpretive Center tells the stories of how those confined at Heart Mountain endured relocation and confinement. Through museum exhibits, a gallery, victory garden and a special introductory film titled All We Could Carry, one has the opportunity to explore the confinement of Japanese Americans through the eyes and experiences of former internees.
We, as a group, felt it was a very worthwhile experience and would encourage others who might be interested to give it a try.
Author
Jamie Ford is the great-grandson of Nevada mining pioneer Min Chung, who emigrated from Kaiping, China, to San Francisco in 1865, where he adopted the Western name "Ford", thus confusing generations. Ford is an award-winning short-story writer, an alumnus of the Squaw Valley Community of Writers, and a survivor of Orson Scott Card's Literary Boot Camp. Having grown up near Seattles's Chinatown, he now lives in Montana with his wife and children. Jamie Ford will be at This House of Books in Billings on October 19, 2017, at 5.30 for a talk and book signing.
Jamie Ford's book is an old-fashioned historical novel that alternates between the early 1940s and 1984. Character Henry Lee is a 12-year-old Chinese boy who falls in love with Keiko Okabe, as 12-year-old Japanese girl, while they are scholarship students at a prestigious private school in World War II Seattle. Henry hides the relationship from his parents, who would disown him if they knew he had a Japanese friend. His father insists that Henry wear an "I am Chinese" button everywhere he goes because Japanese residents of Seattle have begun to be shipped off by the thousands to relocation centers. This begins Henry Lee on his journey through life and finding his first love.

Looking to connect with like minded women...
A Peer Group may be the answer.
|
|
Alice Jagallio is our Peer Group Coordinator.
A monthly Monday & Saturday group are open for additional members.
If you are interested in more information about joining a group contact Alice: amjagiello@aol.com
We are excited to have launched 3 TTN Peer groups! Peer Groups are one of TTN's Signature Programs. They are small groups of members that gather in a comfortable and trusting environment on a monthly bases to discuss:
- What is important to them at this stage of life
- Share ways to live with vitality and wisdom
- Provide support to each other
The difference between Special Interest Groups and Peer Groups: SIG's are member-generated around topics or activities and anyone can start one.
Peer Group are facilitated groups composed of 8-12 TTN members. A safe and supportive environment provides members a place for thought-provoking and stimulating conversations relating to transition to help members reflect on their lives - past, present and future.

Community Outreach
|
|
Outreach Makes A
Difference
TTN women want to stay involved. They are using their skills to positively impact their own communities on a variety of levels. And they are changing the way organizations think of volunteers. No longer satisfied to just stuff envelopes, our members are directing resources, raising money and finding gratification in "giving back."
One way we can "give back" is by making donations to local non-profits. In conjunction with our quarterly program we will highlight one organization which donations will be taken to. We will provide a list of items that the organization is in need of and ask that you consider a gift when joining us at the program.
