During Professional Municipal Clerks Week Livonia sends a special thank you from the 94,000 Livonia residents to our
Clerk Lori Miller and her outstanding team! | |
Professional Municipal Clerks Week runs from May 5-11! The City Clerk, an elected official, serves the Livonia community for a four-year term, supported by the Deputy Clerk and a team of six.
Your City of Livonia Clerk's Office employees are trained specialists who provide many services to Livonia's citizens. Their responsibilities include administering oaths, serving as the clerk to the City Council, managing all City mail, and maintaining a permanent record of meetings, agendas, and records. At the Clerk's Office, you can obtain birth certificates, death records, notary services, pet licenses/dog park passes, garage sale permits, and more.
Additionally, the Clerk's Office oversees all city, state, and federal elections, which involves registering new voters, processing absentee ballots, and facilitating Early Voting nine days before each election. If you're interested in participating in the election process, consider becoming an Election Inspector! For more information, visit VoteLivonia.org.

Livonia schools host Governor Gretchen Whitmer as she
touts her plan for a free community college education
| |
Michigan might become the first state to offer free education from preschool through community college if Governor Gretchen Whitmer successfully persuades state legislators to adopt her proposal into the state budget. Although the legislature does not currently have the funding in the state budget she is confident that her plan will be included.
Whitmer is proposing what she is describing as a 60 by 30 goal, which is to have 60% of working-age adults earn a postsecondary education by 2030.
Whitmer toured the Livonia Career and Technical Center where she announced her plans at a press conference. Quoted in the Detroit News Whitmer says "Michigan could be the pioneer in declaring that from the age of four to twenty, we will equip individuals with top-notch skills without the burden of debt. This would broadcast to the globe, the economic sphere, and prospective employers that Michigan is the destination of choice."
Whitmer engaged in conversations with the students, teachers, and local elected officials including members of the Livonia Board of Education, Superintendent Andrea Oquist, State Senator Dayna Polhanki, Council President Brandon McCullough, Schoolcraft College Trustee Bret Gierak and Schoolcraft College President Glenn Cerny.
Thanks to Brandon McCullough and the Livonia Public Schools for sharing these pictures.

It's Time for the Rotary Noon Club Wine Pull Year Two. May 18. |
The Livonia Rotary Club warmly invites those 21 and over to a special Wine Pull fundraiser on Saturday, May 18, at none other than Rotary Park.
Choose from two available time slots to enjoy the day: 1-2:30 p.m. or 2:30-4 p.m., and savor pizza, salad, beer, wine, and cider from a local winery.
Wine will also be available for purchase at the event. Entry tickets for the Wine Pull are priced at $35 per person or $60 per couple, with proceeds going towards the Rotary Club's various community projects.
For tickets or more information check out:
LivoniaRotary.org
Last year, I fondly wrote about the Wine Pull being one of my new favorite events, expressing hope for its return. Thankfully, it's back for a second year, although I'll be in Colorado, attending grandson Leo's first baseball game and celebrating granddaughter Maya's third birthday.
I'm hopeful that the event will be a sell-out, that the Rotary will raise substantial funds for their community-supporting projects, and that all attendees will relish the conversation, the wine, and the chance to make new friends while catching up with old ones.
