Shakespeare in the Park Year Three is only weeks away
July 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 at Stymelski Park
| |
Three years ago, Ted Davis, the Superintendent of Livonia Parks and Recreation, expressed a strong desire in a conversation with the typewriter to host a Shakespeare in the Park event in Livonia that very year.
Within days, the Hardies Family Trust made a generous $5,000 donation, and a partnership with the Livonia Community Theatre was formed.
Since then, history was made as the Livonia Community Theatre took on a more creative and leadership role, and the Hardies Family Trust, after contributing $10,000 in the second year, became a continuous headline sponsor with another donation.
Now, with Joe Johnston as the Director and a combined cast and ensemble of 34, the production is in full swing with rehearsals. Coupled with set construction, stagehands, and anticipated high attendance, Livonia has embraced another event that enhances the hometown's quality of life.
This typewriter is looking forward to a rollicking good time in less than a month from now. Mark your calendars and look me up at one or more of our own Shakespeare in the Park.

Congratulations to Clarenceville High School's Caitlyn Johnson
Kudos to Clarenceville's Girls Varsity Bowler, Caitlyn Johnson, for being honored as the Detroit High School Sports, Detroit Free Press, and USA Female Bowler of the Year for Michigan for 2023-2024!
Last week, over 300 student-athletes were celebrated at the 2024 Detroit High School Sports Awards, sponsored by Detroit Area Honda Dealers. The event, a collaboration with the U.S. Army, took place at The Fillmore in downtown Detroit.
Caitlyn Johnson stood out among the honorees, earning the title of Girls Bowler of the Year.
The Detroit High School Sports Awards is a comprehensive nine-month program that celebrates the achievements of student-athletes, coaches, and teams in the Detroit Metro area and neighboring counties.
In addition to the awards, attendees, including athletes, parents, and coaches, were treated to insights from Detroit Lions' wide receiver and Michigan and Cass Tech alumnus, Donovan Peoples-Jones. He shared his experiences of playing football in Michigan, and his aspirations with the Lions, and offered valuable advice to the student-athletes present.

FridayMusings is providing the complete copy of the Schoolcraft College Investigation Report regarding serious allegations against Joan Gebhardt
|
The full 156-page report, obtained through a FOIA request, is accessible through the provided link. It details the allegations brought forth by several Schoolcraft College staff members and elected officials, and the responses from Gebhardt.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CnT2-lHwpgiGgfmkkZnKibbhSDtWpJOF/view
There are references to a “crying closet”- a small room frequented by multiple female staffers brought to tears by Gebhardt’s abusive conduct.
Another egregious allegation on what the future holds should Gebhardt be returned to the Schoolcraft Board is as follows:
"Joan Gebhardt's resignation was welcomed by all due to her conduct as board chair, which made serving as a trustee uncomfortable. Upon deciding to run for the board once more, she informed Witness F, 'I am going to make his life a living hell.' When Witness F inquired, 'Are you referring to Witness E?' Gebhardt confirmed, 'Yes. I am going to make that son of a bitch's life a living hell.'
Gebhardt’s response, which admits part of this allegation, is available. She will have another opportunity to address these allegations in a hearing scheduled for June 28, which I’m informed is the next step in the process.
Candy Little, Schoolcraft College Trustee, appointed to replace Gebhardt following her resignation, has received a number of significant endorsements including all members of the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees---Brian Broderick, Carol Strom, Brett Gierak, Terry Gilligan, Dillon Breen, Angel Jaafar---Livonia Board of Education Trustees Colleen Burton, Karen Bradford, Livonia City Councilman Brandon McCullough, and State Senator Dayna Polehanki.
Residents in the Schoolcraft College District, which includes the public-school districts of Livonia, Northville, Plymouth-Canton, Clarenceville, Garden City and part of Novi, pay property taxes to the college, and should be interested about those who are elected to lead the college.
Elected officials who have endorsed Joan Gebhardt’s candidacy should be very concerned about this report, and should reconsider their endorsement.

What motivates FridayMusings:
We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
