Touch-a-Truck continues the partnership between

Rotary Interact, Rotary AM on August 24th

The Churchill Rotary Interact Club is joining forces with the Rotary AM Club once more for the beloved annual Touch-a-Truck event at Greenmead. Scheduled for August 24th from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, the event is free, with a modest $5.00 parking donation.

Children will have the opportunity to blast sirens, crawl inside the vehicles, and learn how all these trucks operate, up close and hands-on. They are encouraged to touch their favorite vehicles, get behind the wheel, and meet the people who help build, protect, and serve our community.

Bob Carris, former president of the Rotary AM Club, excitedly shares, "The ARMY reserve has confirmed a Blackhawk helicopter for Touch a Truck! It will join the Huey from Willow Run and last year's commercial helicopter."

The event will feature over 50 trucks and helicopters, the Wayne County Sheriff's Horse Patrol, fire engines, police cars, and the fan-favorite AlphaUSA race car. Upon arrival, children will receive a Mattel Hot Wheel, courtesy of anonymous community benefactors, distributed by volunteers coordinated by FridayMusings.

Those interested in volunteering and experiencing the joy of children receiving a Hot Wheel can contact the typewriter.

Last year's event attracted over 7,000 visitors to Greenmead. Join us on the 24th as Rotary and Rotary Interact contribute to defining the quality of life in Livonia.

The Race for Livonia School Trustee continues to draw interest

Three incumbents form team with challenger for slate of contenders

Incumbent School Trustee Karen Bradford sends along this note regarding her support for a team of candidates seeking to inform the voters as a slate.

"Filed for re-election today! Look who’s joining me? A new candidate, Dave McFarland. We are happy to have him join our slate of candidates. He has young children who will be entering LPS in the future and is interested in continuing to make LPS a superb district.

"Madeline Acosta. She is a strong candidate for re-election. Madeline is a great learner and attends so many district events. She is very visible and active in our school community.

"And my good friend and pal, Crystal Frank. I am a strong supporter of Crystal. We appointed her after Dan Centers left because she was the most qualified candidate. She is a wonderful and thoughtful board member. She asks questions and prepares fully for our meetings. I’m so happy she has decided to put her hat in the ring again. She brings great perspective to the Board.

"And myself. I plan to continue to advocate for kids and keep our district in good financial shape.

"Our slate is strong. It is mostly based on experience, with room for Dave to learn and grow alongside us. We hope the voters will recognize this and vote for the four of us!""

She offers a fresh, community-focused perspective taking our public schools

to the next level of excellence.

Two Livonia Board of Education candidates have distinguished themselves among early applicants. FridayMusings has endorsed incumbents Trustees Madeline Acosta and Karen Bradford, citing their exemplary, transparent, and accessible service. Musings joins those in Livonia advocating for their continued office tenure.

Additionally, offering a fresh perspective FridayMusings has endorsed Drew Buatti.

FridayMusings has long supported and advocated for Crystal Frank and is endorsing her for another term on the Board of Education. Crystal Frank is consistently involved, lending her support to community events, organizations, and residents.

Some concern arose when word on the street surfaced about her withdrawing her children from public schools to enroll them in private institutions. However, her straightforward response when questioned earned her even greater respect from this correspondent.

Crystal's children have been part of the Livonia Public School System, attending 9 LPS schools. The family chose a private Christian education for one daughter, believing it was "best for her and our family," as public schools do not and should not teach religion.

This viewpoint is one I respect, and I am proud to endorse Crystal Frank for another term on the Livonia Board of Education.

Appointed to the Board on March 6, 2023, Crystal was elected for a four-year term from 2017-2020. A Miami University alumna with a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Communication, she held various roles at Ford Motor Company before becoming the Customer Service Manager at a major Ford dealership. Crystal and her husband, Lucas, have four children who attended 9 different LPS schools within the Stevenson and Churchill clusters. Her long-standing involvement with LPS includes volunteering in the PTA, Athletics, Music, and Robotics programs. She has led as PTA/PTSA President at Webster and Frost and is the current President of Churchill High School's PTSA.

FridayMusings endorses Crystal Frank for the position of Livonia School Trustee, offering a fresh, community-focused perspective.

32 years of teeing up support for the LSO.

This year nearly $25,000 was raised with 120 golfers participating

Thirty-two years ago, Bob Bennett initiated the Livonia Symphony Orchestra's Chip in for the Arts with a committee of just two people: himself and Charlie Mahoney. After Bennett's passing, his enduring legacy of arts support was carried on under Charlie Mahoney's leadership, with substantial sponsorship from Bob Hardies and his company, Financial & Portfolio Advisors. Following Hardies' untimely death, Dan MacIver took over the sponsorship, ensuring the event's continuation, now known as the Bob Bennett Memorial Classic.

Additionally, Nigel and Joanna Travis of the Leyton Orient Football Club in London, England, have become significant partners. Joanna is the daughter of Bob and Janet Bennett.

Another successful community outreach project. A huge success. Thanks to all in Livonia who donated.

The LDC did it again! We totally crushed our Ending Period Poverty Goal!

Thank you, to all who contributed.

And a BIG THANK YOU! to Mitsy Morris & Mike Ladwig who did all the logistics of moving & storing all the donations.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
