Helping define Livonia's Quality of Life

20 years publishing FridayMusings without bias but not without opinion

The typewriter had planned a surprise for son Paul, known for his Denver fame, on his birthday, July 23rd. I made the reservation but made sure the trip was scheduled for July 20th to ensure attendance at the opening night of Shakespeare in the Park's third year.

The allure of the stage was irresistible before the sets were installed. Imagining as the King of the Land, there was a call to the subjects to assemble and bring an abundance of fruits and various delicacies for a celebration that demanded an audience to revel in the merriment provided by the Hardy Folks, the Community Theatre experts, and the park's artisans.

Hope to see all of you on Opening Night, or at least at one of the six performances.

Pucks for Autism recruits McCullough to skate at Notre Dame

Brandon McCullough has journeyed to the Czech Republic as a representative of the United States at the International Street Hockey Championship. He organizes an annual Red Wing Hockey Game to fundraise for Livonia Kids and Families. He coaches girls' hockey. Currently, he is on his way to Notre Dame for a Friday night game aimed at raising funds to support children and adults on the Autism spectrum--Pucks for Autism.

Pucks for Autism is a non-profit organization that hosts various adult hockey games and tournaments to help raise acceptance and support for children and adults on the Autism spectrum. Profits from their events are allocated to programs and other non-profit organizations that provide support to people impacted by Autism. These sister programs and organizations have goals that closely align with their mission of focusing on promoting Autism Acceptance and inclusion while providing resources and programs to help support individuals on the Autism spectrum.

You can be a part of this effort by donating to sponsor McCullough and help Pucks for Autism raise the funding to keep up their support for Autism Awareness. If you would like to donate any amount click on the link here to support McCullough as he skates representing Livonia for this non-profit working for autism inclusion.

Livonia is offering a proactive program designed to assist parents when their child is beginning to show signs of a problem

The Livonia Police Department is currently offering a Parental Evaluation Resource Kit (PERK) to all families who currently live in the City of Livonia or families who have children attending school in the City of Livonia. This PERK is designed to assist Livonia parents who don’t know where to turn when their children begin to show signs of a problem. PERK offers a large amount of information and convenient drug and alcohol tests that provide immediate results in the privacy and safety of the home. In the event of a positive result, PERK directs parents to appropriate community resources WITHOUT law enforcement intervention.

The program empowers parents and gives them the ability to monitor their children in the privacy of their own homes. We are providing this service as a tool for parents to start an open discussion with their children about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and to help parents deal with the issues that can interfere with being a healthy student.

While the use of this kit can be an effective method to determine whether a child is engaging in substance abuse, professional counseling by qualified, licensed professionals is often the best course of action to take.

PERK is simply a proactive program designed to assist parents when their child is beginning to show signs of a problem. It’s another resource the Livonia Police Department is offering our community in the mission to serve and protect.

Parents can obtain a PERK at the Livonia Police Department Investigative Bureau desk, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, please call the Crime Prevention Unit at (734) 466-2318.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.

Endorsements are always significant in any race, of course, the

only endorsement that counts is your vote. Today, we include endorsements forwarded to us made in the last week for Livonia District Judge, State Representative, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge, and United States Congress.

Small Businesses line up behind Matt Koleszar for State Representative

"Small businesses are the heart of our communities - from the vibrant downtowns of Plymouth and Northville to the Moms and Pops that have served Livonia for decades. I’m extremely honored to have earned the support of the Small Business Association of Michigan!"

Detroit News endorses James Hooper for Congress in Republican Primary

(Rashida Tlaib's) opponent in the November general election will be selected in the Republican primary. Linda Sawyer of Livonia and James D. Hooper of Detroit are vying for the opportunity to challenge Tlaib.

James D. Hooper has done mission work in Liberia, managing a water treatment plant among other aid efforts. He describes himself as a “Liberty-minded conservative,” is pro-gun, pro-life and concerned with election integrity. He claims to have personally witnessed election fraud during the 2020 presidential balloting.

Hooper advocates for a more holistic health care system that emphasizes keeping people well over treating them once they are sick. And he says he would end “wokeness” in the military.

Linda Sawyer, a nurse, is an avid Trump supporter and Second Amendment backer. .

Neither of these candidates are as strong as we would prefer, considering the benefits a Tlaib defeat would bring to Michigan’s congressional delegation.

Our recommendation in the Republican primary is James D. Hooper.

Two candidates running for Livonia District Court. No primary so election

will be in November.

Law enforcement/first responders line up behind Jim Jolly for Livonia District Judge

My dedication to the public safety of Livonia over the last two decades has earned me the support of those who keep us safe:

Livonia Police Officers Association, Livonia Police Command Officers, Livonia Professional Firefighters, Wayne County Assn. of Police Chiefs, and Police Officers Association of Michigan

Judges line up behind Robin Persiconi

for Livonia District Judge

Three candidates running for 3rd Circuit Wayne County Judge. Vote for one in

the primary. Top two move on to the

November Election.

Long time public servants endorse John Larkin for Wayne County Circuit Court
