Helping define Livonia's Quality of Life

20 years publishing FridayMusings without bias

but not without opinion

Ask the typewriter how you can win a Porsche eBike with funds going to Livonia Kids & Families. $20 Raffle tickets are available at the Chamber office and from FridayMusings.

If this isn't a Livonia Best Kept Secret I don't know what is.

Have you taken a peek at the Seed Garden on the south side of the Bennett Civic Center Library? Or visited the Seed Library on the second floor of the Library?

They are growing seeds for the Seed Library right on the grounds of the Library! The seed library was an idea of Brian Weiss, so thank you for the creative approach to one way we can redefine what a hometown library is all about.

The typewriter has taken advantage of the Seed Library and encourages you to check out the available seeds.

They have already harvested Italian Round Sweet Pepper, and you'll find a legend that lets you know what else has been planted.

You can find everything you need to know at livoniapubliclibrary.org/seedlibrary.

As Carol Wiles-Bagazinski says, "Good things are happening at the Livonia Public Library!"

Sean Penn and Kid Rock found common ground. A lesson to be learned.

Son Paul Joyner of Aurora Colorado Fame co-produced this film: Americans - a Public Service Film with Kid Rock & Sean Penn.

This 11-minute film was produced in 2012 to encourage people on different ends of the political spectrum to work together and to find common ground for the benefit of us all.

There is some profanity.

It is most appropriate today.

Voters asked to renew county parks millage on Tuesday, August 6
Voters will be asked to consider renewing a tax commonly referred to as the park's millage. It was first authorized by county voters in 1996 and then renewed for five-year periods on five occasions since.
The proposal would continue the millage through 2030. The parks levy is just under one-quarter of a mill and appears on winter tax bills.
In very approximate terms, the tax would cost $24.42 per year on a home that is worth $100,000. A mill is $1 of tax for every $1,000 of a property’s taxable value. Taxable value is listed on tax bills and on assessment notices.
To determine how much one pays on the park's millage, their home’s taxable value can be multiplied by .0002442. If passed, it is expected to generate about $14.47 million in 2026.
The park's millage would provide funding for park improvements in county and local municipalities.

Meet Vasu Tolia

Artist of the Month for August

Bennett Library Fine Arts Gallery

The Livonia Arts Commission presents an artist, Vasu Tolia, at the Fine Arts Gallery, second floor of the Bennett Library, a self-taught artist who paints for the pleasure of creation, hoping to share moments of emotion with those appreciating contemporary art.

Vasu Tolia creates paintings using mixed media - including acrylics, ink, charcoal, oil crayons and paper. "I have been painting for about 10 years now and love the instant fulfillment that comes from completing an artwork. It’s very gratifying and gives me as much joy as I felt when a research paper was accepted by a journal in my medical career."

The Livonia Arts Commission exists to create, promote, develop, sponsor, sustain, facilitate, and further the Arts within the City of Livonia. For the mission of the Commission and its commissioners, the term “Arts” is defined and construed to include the making or doing of things that have form and beauty, and to encompass all forms of Arts including the Arts of music, painting, sculpture, literature, dance, theater, opera, ballet, crafts of all natures, and any other of the performing Arts requiring and exhibiting a level of creativity, skill, or talent.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
