Spring Job Fair returns to Schoolcraft College April 11;

dozens of employers looking to hire

Job seekers take note: Schoolcraft College is hosting its Spring Job Fair from 4-7 p.m. April 11 in the TrinityElite Sports Center on the College’s Livonia campus, which will see dozens of employers seeking candidates for jobs and internships.

Employers from all areas will be in attendance, including Trinity Health, United States Steel, FedEx Ground, Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace, Wayne County and many others.

Schoolcraft College, Career Services at Schoolcraft College, the Manufacturing and Engineering Center at Schoolcraft College and the City of Livonia sponsor the Spring Job Fair.

Julie Hill, Director of Career Services at Schoolcraft College says that “With a wide range of employers visiting during the Fair, it’s a great opportunity for anyone – students, alumni, and community members – to find their next career.”

How successful can attendees be at finding work at the Job Fair? Just ask Heather Kahler. The biannual Job Fairs held at Schoolcraft College helped land Kahler her most recent internship.

Kahler attended the College’s Job Fair last October, seeking an internship opportunity. She ended up connecting with representatives from Blunden & Kidd Accounting & Consulting, P.C. She spoke to them and quickly realized it was a place she could see herself working.

“I knew it was the perfect place for someone like me,” she said. “A small, personable office with CPAs who have many years of experience.” She began interning earlier this year.

The Job Fair, Kahler said, was a great opportunity to better get to know the job market. She recommends students looking for work to attend the Fair and give it a chance.

“I think students should talk to as many companies present at the Job Fairs, because even when you don’t think it's in your field, they may just have positions for you that could help you gain experience,” she said. “It's great to get your name (and resume) out there because you never know, you could just find your dream job. There is something for everyone out there. You got this!”

Folks turn out for an engaging and accessible conversation with

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib

I was aware that the bodyguard and the typewriter needed to return from Georgia a few hours early. The purpose? To attend the conversation with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib at the Civic Center Senior Center. It was invigorating to see a member of Congress so approachable and accessible, discussing her perspectives on current issues with an audience of over 150 people. Livonia Councilwoman Carrie Budzinski, Redford Supervisor Pat McRae, and Treasurer Lily Cavanagh were present.

Congresswoman Tlaib says "Engaging with our residents always helps me stay focused on the issues that matter most. My team and I were thrilled to host a Constituent Services Fair with resources specifically tailored for our Oakland County residents. We had a great turnout and were able to speak with so many of our neighbors. I also spoke at a press conference to urge the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to reform its public participation processes to give our residents more meaningful input in the decisions that shape the health and environment in their communities. We also continued raising awareness about the importance of economic justice for musicians and artists here and across the country with an event promoting our Living Wage for Musicians Act."

Delivering Transformational Constituent Services in Michigan's 12th District

Demanding Meaningful Public Participation in Environmental Permitting

Tlaib participated in a press conference with a coalition of community groups, urging the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to reform its public participation procedures to prioritize people over polluters. The group advocated for a shift from a legalistic and overly technical process that favors corporate polluters to a transparent, participatory approach that safeguards communities by providing meaningful opportunities for community input and involvement in decision-making.

Organizing for a Living Wage for Musicians

She enjoyed an excellent time last Saturday with the United Musicians and Allied Workers, alongside local musicians and DJs Shigeto and Tammy Lakkis at Spotlite in Detroit. The gathering aimed to raise awareness about the Living Wage for Musicians Act, which seeks to ensure musicians receive fair compensation when their music is streamed on platforms like Spotify. The positive response from musicians both in Michigan and nationwide has been inspiring and humbling, highlighting the pressing need for these reforms.

Kidney Awareness Month

37 million Americans live with kidney disease, with millions more at risk. Her visit to DaVita Dialysis during Kidney Awareness Month shed light on the challenges faced by patients and the nursing shortage confronting healthcare providers. Observing the dedication of these professionals and their commitment to patient care was reassuring.

Celebrating a Rosie the Riveter on Her 103rd Birthday

She says it was a delightful experience as she gathered with neighbors and community members to celebrate the 103rd birthday of a World War II-era Rosie the Riveter. Helen Bandyke, who worked at the Chrysler DeSoto Plant in 1942 while her husband served in the war, made significant contributions to the labor movement for women and forged lifelong friendships. Our gratitude goes to the Bandyke family for inviting us to share in this special occasion.
