Livonia 75,1950-2025, Logo Design Competition

Presented by

The Livonia 75 Committee

in Partnership with

The Livonia Historical Society,

FridayMusings, and the Friends of Livonia Arts

The purpose of this contest is to encourage all Livonia residents to use their creative talents to design a Logo to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the City of Livonia.

Founded on May 23, 1950, our community will mark its 75 birthday with programs and activities reaching out to residents and visitors alike. Festivities will begin in September 2024 and continue throughout 2025. There will be several events with a “Livonia 75” theme, including a “We Love Livonia” in February, a birthday party in May, the “Spree” in June, and the planned dedication of the Senior Center during the year.

Community organizations, schools, religious, and business organizations are encouraged to develop special activities marking this historic occasion.

For any questions and all submissions, contact:

Friends of Livonia Arts, Michelle Nixon, info@friendsoflivoniaarts.org.

ELIGIBILITY, USE OF LOGO, PRIZE

The contest is open to all Livonia residents. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and will be noted as the Livonia 75 Committee’s designer on the website. The winning submission becomes the sole property of the Livonia 75 Committee during the Livonia 75 timeframe. The logo will be used on the Livonia 75 website, social media, posters, printed materials, gifts, novelty items, FridayMusings masthead or anywhere else the Livonia 75 Committee deems appropriate.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The contest opens on MAY 1, 2024 and closes on MAY 31, 2024 at 11:50 p.m. Late submissions will not be considered. Entries will be judged on their visual appeal, appropriateness for Livonia, and ability to be reproduced either in color or in black/white. All entries must be submitted electronically as jpeg files to the Friends of Livonia Arts. Submissions must include the full name of the person who designed the logo, email address, postal address, and telephone number.

One or more submissions per person are acceptable. Each submission must be sent in a separate email. There is no fee to enter the contest.

For quality reproduction purposes, the winning entry must later be submitted in scalable vector graphic format (EPS). The color must be CMYK, though the logo may also be reproduced in black and white. Contestants are advised to avoid gradients and half-tones. The logo must be easy to use, handle, resize, and manipulate for all reproduction purposes. It should be visually appealing on both small (as small as 2 cm x 2 cm) and large scales.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

All entrants affirm their submissions are their original work, have not been copied from others or previous designs, including their own, and do not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.

SELECTION OF WINNER

The winning entry will be selected by a panel of members of the Livonia 75 Committee including the Friends of Livonia Arts, the Livonia Historical Society, and FridayMusings. All entrants will be selected and notified via email by JUNE 21, 2024.

Yes! Rotary Noon Club brings back the inaugural Wine Pull for Year Two

Last year, the Rotary Noon Club hosted the inaugural Wine Pull, and due to its success, they are hosting the event again on May 18. This community wine-tasting event will be complete with pizza and salad at Rotary Park. Robb Drzewicki and Carrie Budzinski enjoyed the first event and along with the typewriter were hoping for its return in 2024.

Unfortunately, this typewriter will be in Colorado celebrating Maya's third birthday and Leo's preschool graduation. Fortunate to be with family, unfortunate to miss this event. The event will have two sessions, from 1:00-2:30 and 2:30-4:00, with tickets priced at $35.00 for an individual or $60.00 for a couple.

It is a creative and unique event that supports the Rotary Club's Charitable Foundation. Please share your experiences of the festivities with the typewriter, and let me know how much fun you had and what I missed. Tickets can be secured this week at LivoniaRotary.org.

Touch A Job Year Two appears to have been another success

Brett Gierak, Schoolcraft College Trustee was on hand this past weekend at Touch A Job Year Two with his family and he took to Facebook to describe how it went. He says that "It was so much fun at Touch a Job. The kids loved welding, using the plasma cutter, melting and forming plastics, checking out the fire trucks and police cars, and using the 3D printer>

Councilwoman Carrie Budzinski describes the free event as a "hands-on opportunity for students to learn about career options in the fields of manufacturing, public safety, medicine, technology, sustainability, and even the United States Space Force!"

Livonia Historical Society continues their impact on Livonia with sponsorship of "A Day at the Newburg Schoolhouse."

The Livonia Historical Society, in collaboration with FridayMusings and Greenmead Historical Park, has launched the second year of "A Day at the Newburg Schoolhouse" field trip program. This initiative began last week with the first group of second-grade students, from Coolidge who provided these pictures and will involve a total of 34 classes from Clarenceville and Livonia schools, encompassing 800 students this spring.

This year, various Livonia organizations have collectively donated $10,000, ensuring that nearly 800 students can participate free of charge. Last year, the Livonia Historical Society and FridayMusings generated $7,000 to resurrect the program. Jim McConnell of the Livonia Historical Society has stated that they are formulating a strategy to sustain the program for the future. "We had a meeting with Superintendent Andrea Oquist last week to update her on our efforts to secure the funds needed to establish this as a perennial event," he said.

Thursday, April 25, will see friends of the arts gather at Mama Mia's for a meetup for Livonia Artists, the You Gotta Have Art Party

The Livonia Rotary AM Club has embraced the arts by sponsoring the Livonia Artists meetup, allowing us to savor mostaccioli and pizza, engage in conversation, and make new friends who are either professional artists or passionate hobbyists.

Attendance is free, and it's a wonderful opportunity to mingle with a community of painters, writers, musicians, photographers, actors, graphic artists, dancers, and art enthusiasts.

The event will be hosted by Michelle Nixon, founder of Friends of Livonia Arts; members of the Livonia Arts Commission, Bill Joyner, an arts advocate for enhancing the quality of life; and public officials including Councilwoman Carrie Budzinski, School Trustee Liz Jarvis, and Representative Matt Koleszar. We also expect Clerk Lori Miller and Councilman Jim Jolly to be on hand.

Reservations are still open, ensuring we have ample food and adult beverages for everyone. To reserve your spot, please contact Bill Joyner.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
