Since our hometown's founding in 1950 one strength of Livonia has been and continues to be found in the Non-profit sector | |
On Wednesday, April 17, Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan convened the Third Annual Nonprofit Leadership Summit. This breakfast gathering showcased over 70 volunteers and professionals from more than 40 of the city's nonprofit and community organizations.
Mayor Brosnan greeted the attendees and highlighted Livonia's nonprofit sector's history, significance, and influence. In her opening remarks, she reflected on the figures who have shaped Livonia over the past 75 years and expressed enthusiasm for the prospects of the coming 75 years.
Following the Mayor, Kayleigh Reid, Executive Director of the Livonia Spree, took the stage. She provided updates on the Spree and introduced innovative ideas for collaboration with Livonia's yearly birthday celebration. Having assumed her role with the Spree just before the previous year's event, Kayleigh is eager to enhance this year's festivities to be even more enjoyable for families.
Robb Drzewicki, Director of Government Affairs and Outreach, then initiated a dialogue about the city's revitalized commitment to involving the nonprofit sector in driving service, change, and community engagement. With his extensive experience in local organizations, Robb offered insights from multiple perspectives: as a participant, a nonprofit executive, and a collaborator with many of the non-profits in the audience. His participation will also strengthen the bond between City Hall and Livonia's dedicated service and volunteer groups.

The summit's discussions converged around the theme of Livonia's forthcoming 75th Anniversary. The year 2025 is set to honor the previous 75 years while anticipating the next. The growing list of themed events underscores this sentiment. The Livonia 75 Committee is dedicated to providing a centralized event calendar and a resource for residents to explore Livonia's history, current initiatives, and future aspirations.

During a discussion with Dr. Glenn Cerny, the proposal to supply refreshments crafted by the Schoolcraft Culinary Arts Department for the dedication of the Bentley High School Historic Marker on September 15th was agreed upon.
Bentley High School made a significant contribution to the establishment of Schoolcraft College in 1961, and when classes commenced in 1964, a substantial number of the initial enrollees were from Bentley.
Cerny is set to participate in the dedication program, highlighting Bentley's role in the transformation of Livonia's culture from a K-12 school district to one that embodies a more comprehensive hometown education, extending to K-14.

What motivates FridayMusings:
We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.
