This Saturday, April 20th, the Livonia community will come together for a Gala Celebration to honor the Livonia Symphony Orchestra's 50 years of cultural contributions. The evening will feature dinner, engaging conversations, and a festive LSO Concert, showcasing the city's role as a cultural cornerstone of southeast Michigan. Tickets may still be available for $50.00 at livoniasymphony.org/tickets.

Five days later, on April 25th, artists of all levels are invited to a free gathering at Mama Mia's on Plymouth Road. The Livonia Rotary AM Club will provide mostaccioli, pizza, and possibly adult beverages. The event is more than a social gathering; it offers networking opportunities and engaging conversations without a formal agenda. Carrie Budzinski, Liz Jarvis, and Matt Koleszar will host the evening, with members of the Friends of Livonia Arts and the Livonia Arts Commission in attendance. Reservations can be made at rwilliamjoyner@gmail.com.

In a month, on May 19th, the Livonia Civic Chorus will herald the transition from spring to summer with their annual Spring Concert, 'I Write the Songs,' at Stevenson High School. The group of over 60 singers is dedicated to delivering top-notch entertainment. Tickets are available at the Civic Center Senior Center, from chorus members, or at the door.

Cultural events are plentiful all year round, such as the Livonia Community Theatre's production of "Working, The Musical." It will be showcased in the fresh and inventive space of Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church on May 10, 11, 17, and 18.

If you are looking for a different type of entertainment check out the evening of Improv at the Motor City Youth Theatre, 27555 Grantland , 48150, May 3rd.

Sen. Cavanagh and Colleagues Introduce

MI Momnibus and Resolution to Commemorate Black Maternal Health Week

Last week, Mary Cavanagh (D-Redford Twp.), joined by Senators Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing), Erika Geiss (D-Taylor), and Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit), introduced a legislative package aimed at improving equity and accountability in maternal healthcare across Michigan. The "MI Momnibus" bills, numbered 818-827, outline a comprehensive strategy to enhance existing community-led programs and care solutions, and to better prenatal and maternal healthcare, with a focus on amplifying the voices of Black birthing individuals, mothers, women, families, and stakeholders.

"As a member of the Michigan State Senate and Chair of the Legislative Latino Caucus, I am honored to contribute to this crucial initiative designed to address persistent disparities in maternal health that disproportionately impact Black and Brown families," Senator Cavanagh remarked.

"Given the high maternal mortality rates among Latina mothers, I am concerned about the risks that I, as a young woman of color, might face in family planning. The Michigan Senate is dedicated to strengthening patient protection and ensuring that women of color receive comprehensive care throughout their parenting journey, from pregnancy to postpartum, thus enhancing the well-being of families in Michigan."

Black women face significant healthcare challenges compared to their white counterparts, leading to higher risks and potentially fatal complications. With increasing mortality rates and threats to reproductive rights, it is critical to support local initiatives that improve prenatal and maternal care, encourage breastfeeding and nutrition, and safeguard access to abortion services.
