It is hard to believe that the longest day of the year has passed and that Fourth of July celebrations are beginning this week. We want to welcome any of our new friends that may be reading our newsletter for the first time and thank all of you that have been following us since our humble beginnings over 5 years ago.
We hope that you enjoy our monthly newsletter (a lot of time and effort really does go into it), all of it is physical therapist approved and our one wish is that you will learn something new to help you on your quest for good health or to hear about something that is going on in our community! Feel free to share with your loved ones and those you care about. (knowledge is power ;)
Happy Summer, looking forward to seeing you soon!
Yours in Wellness,
Jennifer and Christina

One. had the privilege of attending the Summer Solstice Bash on June 21st hosted by our friends from Blue Lotus Yoga at Annapolis Sailing School. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening and venue. The yoga held outside on their floating dock with sailboats going by was quintessential Annapolis.
We were excited to meet lots of new friends there and we welcome you to One.! As a thank you, we are offering a free cold laser session to all new clients who attended the Bash.
Thanks to Blue Lotus for including us for this incredible evening!

Chi Gong
Also spelled Qi Gong, this is an exercise class that incorporates deep breathing and slow fluid movements for stretching and strengthening the muscles to achieve a meditative state of mind. The exercises found in Qi Gong involve gentle, rhythmic movements that mirror movements found in nature. Qi Gong teaches us to move our bodies in a similar fluid motion, minimizing the risk of injury while maintaining balance and focus.
Jeff Masenheimer is looking for a few more students for his Friday 11 AM class. Let us know if you would like to schedule a initial complimentary session to see what this class can do for you!

Meet Lisa Dewey Wells
I am a master at finding calm in the midst of chaos and the founder of Grounded 2 Grow, Coaching, Consulting and Wellness. My life’s work and passion is helping busy women find more balance and joy in their lives through coaching, consulting, yoga/mindfulness and personal resources.
I understand that the intersection of work, life, and wellness can be a complicated and sticky place. I believe that we each have the ability and agency to better navigate those demands. Often we simply need an empathetic and judgement-free listener to helps us find purpose, joy and ease. I help clients excavate their own truths to find clarity about what matters most and map a plan to get there. Our work together helps to create a vision to be better parents, partners, set meaningful and attainable goals, refine their organization and schedules, be more mindful in daily life, or improve overall health and wellness.
Plus, I am the co-facilitator of a once in a life time opportunity to retreat within adventurous and curious women at Kilkea Castle, County Kildare Ireland. This retreat takes place 22-27 August, 2020- the week before the Navy - Notre Dame football game in Dubin!

Study: Physical Activity and Higher Motor Skills Create a 'Cognitive Reserve' Even When Brain Pathologies Are Present
New research combining postmortem examination of brain tissue with testing during life has revealed what researchers believe to be an as-yet unexplained connection: higher levels of physical activity (PA) and motor skills seem to create a "cognitive reserve" that buoys cognitive performance during life, even in the presence of Alzheimer's disease (AD), Lewy body disease, and other brain pathologies associated with dementia.

Here's the Secret to Banishing Muscle Aches
Meet fascia, the connective tissue weaving through your body that studies show is key to untangling tightness for good.
"You
step out of bed in the morning
or and up at the end of a long workday, and—
ooph
—there it is. Cranky stiffness. Yours may creep up only now and then—a twinge in the neck that rudely interrupts you as you tuck in your kid, or that pulling in your hip after a long car ride. Or maybe
you feel a little achy
around the clock.
Limited physical activity is one big problem.
Sitting at a desk all day
for years, for example, can cause hyaluronan to become
dehydrated
and turn icky. This doesn't occur overnight, but you may feel the effects after stretches of being sedentary, especially in the neck, back, and hips, common spots for fascia‐related problems. Once the quality of hyaluronan is compromised, any bout of inertia—a long flight, or even a night in bed—can leave you feeling tight.
Too much physical activity can be just as problematic, though. Overuse injuries caused by repetitive movement (training for a marathon, constantly bracing a phone between your ear and shoulder) can also make hyaluronan gum up, as can trauma like whiplash or a sprained ankle.
Last but not least, chronic physical conditions could be to blame.
Arthritis (inflammation of the joints)
and other factors that force you to tweak how you move can futz with fascia as well, per Findley. Putting more pressure on your right leg to compensate for an arthritic left knee, for instance, affects the whole body, especially the back, and can overwork and irritate the sensitive connective tissue.
Enlist the Helpers
To free up your fascia, follow the same Rx doctors give to protect your heart, brain, and bones: exercise. Aim for 10,000 daily steps, and take regular stretch breaks. And vary your workouts. Alternate
brisk walks
with swimming, for example."
And if all else fails, reach out to One. and our team of fascia experts to help get you back on track.

Ted’s Pain Cream
with resveratrol
The first product on the market that doesn’t just numb pain, it outsmarts it on a molecular level.
Two natural ingredients in Ted’s™ (methyl salicylate from the wintergreen plant, and resveratrol from grape leaves or Japanese knotweed) appear to work together in a brand new, previously unknown way.
Unlike other topical treatments, Ted’s™ doesn’t numb your nerves, nor does it simply distract you with menthol or heat. It appears instead to reset the pain threshold in injured nerves, cutting back on false pain, while allowing important, true pain signals to still make it through.
To go a little more in depth, when you get an injury, the nerves nearby do more than just carry the pain signal to your brain. They become hyperexcited, which means they turn up the volume on all other sensations. So after an injury, much of the pain you feel can actually be false pain caused by the volume on your nerves being "too loud".
Over time, this hyperexcitability mechanism can turn into chronic pain. It can even lead to pain killer dependency and abuse.
Through his research, Ted and his team discovered that the ingredients in Ted’s™ Brain Science Products appear* to turn the volume on nerves back to normal levels. So false pain gets eliminated, but true pain signals (the helpful, stop-doing-that-you’re-hurting-something! kind) can still get through.
*Important word there, “appears,” we want to be clear that our research is brand new – it’s been peer reviewed, but as academic scientists we’re reluctant to make grand claims without years and years of replication and re-review and re-re-view, so we’re speaking cautiously for now.
Research also suggests that when applied three times a day, it only takes the ingredients in Ted’s™ pain cream a few days to turn the nerve pain volume back down, maybe even permanently. It’s worth mentioning that for some people, Ted’s™ takes longer to work than other treatments, but they also agree it more than makes up for it.
Or ask One. about this product!
