The City Council Passes the Ocean Shores Budget

On Monday December 12, the City Council of Ocean Shores unanimously passed the biennium budget for 2023-2024 and there is much to be celebrated moving forward.

The budget process saw several developments that should propel the City for many years to come both in terms of infrastructure development and new public amenities.

In terms of beautification and livability, Chinook Park will become a first-class recreational facility with the City’s first dog park for residents and visitors alike. The revitalization of Chinook Park will include new playground equipment, swing set, flushable toilets. The City has long been in need of a dog park, and this will be a terrific place to bring pets and family together along the shores of Duck Lake.

When considering much needed equipment, the City will, after years of waiting, finally have a new street sweeper, mower, vactor truck and new staff to boost our Water Department, Street Department, Wastewater Collections and Wastewater Treatment Plant. These improvements will increase the efficiency of our Public Works Department and bring in equipment that has been long in need.

The Oyehut ditch, the intake to all of our City’s fresh waterways, is now slated for a major improvement that will mitigate flooding and increase the intake of fresh water into our lakes and canals.

The City appropriated a million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funding for this purpose and it will represent a major investment in the quality and viability of our fresh waterways systems.

KOSW, the City owned radio station will be taking a leap in terms of coverage and accessibility by securing a lease on a new tower that will improve broadcasting range and will be a safe space to broadcast in the event of an emergency.

For long-term planning purposes, the Council voted to pass a Capital Facilities and Maintenance Plan and a Southern Erosion Development Analysis. Additional funding was made available to support area non-profits such as the Ocean Shores Foodbank and the North Beach Senior Center to help offset economic and financial difficulties for area residents.

Lastly, the Ocean Shores Fire Department will be adding two new staff in 2023 and two in 2024 to handle Emergency Medical Service and fire suppression response needs in order to better be able to handle the large volume of calls that come into the City.

Remember this holiday season to shop, vacation and enjoy Ocean Shores to the fullest.

Happy holidays and best wishes to everyone!

Martin Bruni Liquor

Martin Bruni Liquor is the largest liquor store on the Washington Coast with a wide selection of hard to find beer, wine and spirits that can be purchased in store or shipped. The store is pet friendly, providing water and treats for our four legged friends.

In operation since 2011 and owned by Jon and Kim Martin, Martin Bruni Liquor has graciously supported various non-profits such as PAWS of Grays Harbor, Ronald McDonald House, food and clothing banks, Habitat for Humanity of Grays Harbor, Garden by the Sea and many others. They’ve also supported service organizations including Rotary, Elks and Eagles Club as well as the Ocean Shores Beautification Committee.

During the summer of 2022, Martin Bruni Liquor's dedication to Ocean Shores and Grays Harbor was recognized as they were nominated by community members for Business of the Year. While they were not this year's award recipient, GGHI was excited to honor them at the Leader's Banquet & Business Recognition Awards in October.

Thank you to Martin Bruni Liquor for doing business in Ocean Shores and giving back to so many non-profits and service organizations!
